What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise World at War as one of the best Call of Duty games ever made, highlighting its darker and grittier take on WWII, memorable campaign missions especially on the Eastern Front, the introduction of the popular Zombies mode with free maps, excellent soundtrack, and strong gameplay across campaign and multiplayer. The game remains playable today through community servers and offers genuine difficulty on Veteran mode. A few reviews note the game is simply "fine" or mention minor issues like atmospheric menu music, but negative feedback is minimal overall.

works.
10/10. Definitely my favourite WWII CoD. In my opinion it is the exact moment (along the OG MW trilogy and two first Black Ops) when the series peaked. Unlike other WWII CoDs, this one is darker, grittier and showes WWII (especially Eastern Front) not through the idealized lenses of Hollywood. Soundtrack goes hard (Gary Oldman screaming as Reznov does so too!) and missions themselves are memorable and enjoyable. Furthermore, this is the game where Zombies mode debuted for the first time (and you get all 4 Zombie maps for free) and it is fun to play with your friends. Also, despite its age you can still find people playing this game online on Plutonium and it is fun too. Last, but not least, this game at the Veteran difficulty is the toughest one to beat in the whole series (yup, that's due to grenade swarm). The only problem is the price. Activision shouldn't make us pay so much for a game released back in 2008. But if you wait until some of Steam's sale you should find it in more normal prize ranges. And now at the end: GO LOCKE, GRAB THE GAME AND SHOOT THOSE PT BOATS!

# Call of Duty: World at War Review ---{ Gameplay }--- ☑ Very good ☐ Good ☐ Average ☐ Mehh ☐ Just don't World at War delivers fast, brutal, and satisfying classic Call of Duty gameplay. The campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies mode provide enough variety to make it one of the strongest entries from the older era of the franchise. ---{ Campaign }--- ☐ Forgettable ☐ Average ☐ Good ☑ Excellent ☐ Historical masterpiece The campaign presents World War II as violent, desperate, and unforgiving instead of making it feel heroic or clean. The American Pacific and Soviet Eastern Front missions create memorable battles with a darker atmosphere than most Call of Duty campaigns. ---{ Zombies }--- ☐ Unnecessary ☐ Basic ☐ Good ☐ Very good ☑ Legendary World at War introduced Nazi Zombies, one of the most important and replayable modes in Call of Duty history. Its simple maps, eerie atmosphere, escalating difficulty, and cooperative gameplay created the foundation for everything that followed. ---{ Multiplayer }--- ☐ Bad ☐ Average ☑ Good ☐ Very good ☐ Perfect The multiplayer uses the familiar progression and perk systems from Call of Duty 4 while adding weapons, maps, and vehicles suited to W…
