What do you do in the game? Tic-tac-toe, the turn based 1v1 (vs AI) game of putting noughts or crosses on a grid. The objective is to make three in a row, or at least block your opponent from doing the same. The o's and x's here are replaced with AI slop pictures of cats paws and mice. There's also expanded game modes with larger grids and expanded goals like making 5 in a row instead of three. Yeah, that was what tic-tac-toe needed to break into the bleeding edge of PC gaming, AI slop and bigger grids. God help us all. The "game" here is of a pretty low technical standard. The implementation is basic minimum effort stuff, more like a weekend project rather than a serious, professionally made product... and it's bad even compared to most amateur made games. CheeseCatToe is a really simple little puzzle game, but I found it surprisingly relaxing. At its heart, it is basically tic tac toe, although it goes beyond the classic small grid by giving me larger boards and different win conditions. I liked that the game does not try to make the idea more complicated than it needs to be. I can start playing almost immediately, and it works nicely when I just want something quiet that still makes me think. The classic three in a row mode is obviously the easiest place to start. It is familiar enough that I already know the basic rules, but the larger boards change things quite a bit. As the grid gets bigger, I have more spaces to consider and it becomes much easier to overlook a possible line. I enjoyed this because the game slowly turns something extremely simple into a more thoughtful logic puzzle without needing a huge amount of explanation. The larger boards are where I think CheeseCatToe becomes more interesting. The game goes all the way up to an eleven by eleven board with five in a row needed to win. That gives me much more room to plan ahead, block potential lines and look for opportunities of my own. I found myself paying more attent…
