Welcome to ChromaTec

Here at ChromaTec, colors are magnets! Well, not exactly. Magnetoid Chromatism — a physical property of the pandimensional realm — is a bit more complex than that. In layperson’s terms: Walls attract objects of the same color. All kinds of objects! Like large boxes. Or small boxes. Or large crates. Or super-safe, friendly, decidedly non-murderous WorkerDroids*. (list not exhaustive)
*WorkerDroids may be less non-murderous than previously implied.

Use your refined painting- and color-mixing skills to voluntarily solve intricate puzzles on the ChromaTec Testing Track for ChromaGun Research Purposes, Mark II — aka ChromaGun 2. Please note the following are NOT valid reasons for non-participation:
  • Not having participated in the Testing Track Mark 1
(i.e. ChromaGun 1; No prior knowledge necessary)
  • Color-blindness
(A color blind accessibility mode is available at no extra charge)
  • Fear of birds (except chickens)
  • Fear of magnets (They’re colors, not magnets)
  • Fear of being involuntarily forced to perform tests on an experimental color-based firearm (this will never happen)

ChromaGun 2 is a first person puzzle game where the player must solve test chambers by using a gun which shoots magnetic paint of different colours, to manipulate the position of objects within each room. There are similarities to other first person puzzle games such as Portal and ReThink, so players of those games will feel familiar with the basic gameplay mechanics. I also played the original ChromaGun for the first time just before playing this sequel.
Gameplay (medium quality)
• The most common way to solve puzzles involves shooting walls, spherical drones, and other objects, to paint them a specific colour. Walls attract objects of the same colour towards them like a magnet. If there are multiple walls of the same colour nearby, the object will be positioned an equal distance between them. • You’ll often need to move drones on top of pressure plates to open doors or activate moving platforms. Sometimes objects blocking your path simply need to be moved out of the way. • After a short tutorial where your gun can only shoot one colour, you’ll eventually acquire an upgraded gun which can shoot red, yellow and blue. You can also mix colours by shooting already paint…

It's very very good. Puzzles are clever and fun. Production values are top notch. This game comes pretty close to capturing Portal 2 vibes. It even introduces a type of co-op mechanism where you get to direct a NPC companion to help you solve puzzles. There is some platforming but nothing too tricky that requires great dexterity or sense of timing. The majority of the challenge comes from just figuring where to go / what to do. I think it is less challenging than Portal 2 when it comes to dexterity or platforming. There were a couple of places where I got stuck for a long time (more than an hour each I am embarrassed to say) on main puzzles that I eventually gave up on and watched the video walkthrough for, and then couldn't believe how I didn't think of that. The game is also quite long, and I didn't even go for all the optional secrets. There are unfortunately a few small bugs - namely robots can get stuck in door frames which requires restarting a level. Fortunately, after a forced restart, getting back to where you were doesn't take as long as the first time because you know how to solve the puzzles.

Yeah actually pretty good! The portal comparison is inevitable, and while I would never say this is *as* clean or *as* novel, it still is a pretty dang well made, interesting and, at times, a fairly challenging puzzle game. Definitely worth your time if you like the puzzle platformer genre

The game is better than the original in quality and story. I enjoyed it overall until the game presented a bug that doesn't allow me to progress any further. In the mission "Chapter 5: Fifty Hues of Green", I completed the puzzle and got the power core, but after acquiring the power core, the gun becomes non-functional and the player is just stuck in the room. Unfortunate. I would've liked to hear the rest of the story.

Incredibly annoying game show host type character is constantly talking to you in a very annoying voice, and trying and failing to be funny. The humor is very try-hard and doesn't land for me at all, and it's much worse than if it wasn't there to begin with.
