Classic Marathon

Clobber aliens in the back of the head at high speed. The combat involves a lot of dodging and positioning. Shooting enemies feels satisfying. Ammo is somewhat sparse at the start, but you eventually end up with more than enough ammo. This game leans into the space ship aesthetic, which is fun. Flying around in low gravity is fun. Since this game supports room over room, and other features which no other game did at the time, there is a lot of variety and verticality in the level design. The plot is highly interesting and continually gets crazier. Fun game. Keep playing past the first level and the levels get more elaborate. I recommend trying the music mods on the workshop to enhance the soundtrack. My only complaints are sometimes you press a switch that does something across the map which you cannot see immediately, which is fairly old school and never really happens in Marathon 2 or 3, and I think the graphical filter should be off by default.

super fun gunplay, levels layout can be a bit confusing tho, love how it looks too design and graphics wise, great game overall

Marathon was one of the first games I ever played back on my dad's PowerPC. Glad to be able play it today. Still get jumpscared sometimes
