Considerable Grandfather

[b]Considerable Grandfather[/b] is a hidden gem that fills a very specific niche—a “niche niche” if you will—being the first [i]Granny[/i]-type game (that I'm aware of) since the [i]Super Granny[/i] games. If you're wondering what a [i]Granny[/i]-type game is, that's because I just made that up. But I digress. In both the [i]Super Granny[/i] series and this game, we play as a grandparent on an adventure to rescue cats or dogs. And, for some unfathomable reason, there's also an abundance of enemies trying to kill us (who'd want to harm an innocent animal-rescuing grandparent???), but luckily we’re armed. With a shovel. While I wouldn’t exactly call it a technological marvel, it’s a special and nostalgic game that’s also deceptively difficult. Yes, it looks like it’s from the early ‘90s—somehow looking even older than the original [i]Super Granny[/i] from 2004. And maybe the backdrops are a bit too simplistic; in fact, I couldn't even tell what some were supposed to be until the world name popped up in an achievement (oh, those levels were set in a junkyard?). A platformer that keeps things fresh by introducing new mechanics throughout the course of the game. The optional challenges on each level provide a good challenge for completionists, but can be be ignored without negatively impacting the experience. Plays well on a controller.

Basically the spiritual successor to the Super Granny series. It’s a solid game, but the marketing is almost invisible. I had no clue this even existed and just stumbled on it randomly. Seriously, promote this more because it deserves way more attention. On another note, it would be nice if there was a level editor with integrated Steam Workshop support.

Considerable Grandfather is an excellent video game filled with a lot of action, puzzles, secrets, and much more! In this game, say hello to Considerable Grandfather (John), a man on a quest to rescue all his boggies (dogs) from evil moles. It has arcade-like gameplay where you control Considerable Grandfather and move him around the level. He can climb ladders, dig holes, swing across monkey bars, and use various items to help him throughout the level. The usual objective of each level is to collect all the boggies on the map, rescue them, and exit the level. However, this is not always as simple as it may seem. Several gameplay elements are present to enhance the game and make it more engaging. One of these gameplay elements is the collectible items. Treats are a common collectible that are found almost everywhere. Collecting all the treats in a level will grow a Mega Treat, which is collected by digging it up. This is an important collectible required to unlock the secret final world. Treats serve as a form of currency, used to purchase items at Pedro's Shop. There are also secret collectibles hidden in certain levels in each world. Finding these secret collectibles will reveal…

Roughly half way through the game, it's very fun with many enemies and obstacles to overcome. Truly fun until the Spookies come out for you.
