In terms of looks, this seemingly little arcade platformer didn't impress. In fact, the title and store page screenshots discouraged me from playing until recently. However, you shouldn't judge a book (or game) by its cover as this was surprisingly decent. Corgi Warlock was mostly a simplistic side-scrolling run and (magic) shoot game. There was jumping, but don't expect much plaforming as it was minimal, often absent from levels. The background graphics were poor and repetitive, but the variety and cartoony charm of the monsters compensated a lot. I appreciated that each monster had its own little funny death animation instead of just blinking out. Also appreciated how big the sprites were, especially the bosses. The gamepad controls were adequate and you'll need that as the enemies keep on coming from left & right while you keep jumping to avoid enemy fire. There was a nice progression for the spells, just a few, but well paced and well button mapped. In terms of challenge, it felt fair to me although I had to try some of the more bullet-sponge bosses a few times. Nothing too complex for enemy attacks. Originally bought for its cheap price to get the badge but then genuinely enjoyed it and completed it. The gameplay is quite simple and it took me about 4 hours to finish it but it was fun. Music's nice, humor's nice, fps nice :D Sadly there is no menu to adjust the volume of the music or sound effects so it was barely heard when casting all those spells. In fact, there was no settings menu at all, the only thing you could change is enter fullscreen mode. And another thing, at least on windows, it is not treated like most steam games, I couldnt use steam overlay or make any screenshots, F12 was bringing up chromium devtools for some reason

The experience felt underwhelming from beginning to end.

It's hard not to recommend a game this enjoyable.
