About Crown Gambit

Crown Gambit is a narrative tactical game in which you guide three paladins down an ominous path, through a capital plagued by chaos and political unrest.
Pledge allegiance to one of the pretenders to the throne and help them ascend to power. Follow your own principles but be careful, as your choices often come at a price!
Pick a side among plotters and use ancestral relics to defeat your foes, from power-hungry knights to cunning nobles and rebel commoners.
What will you sacrifice to save the kingdom? Which heir to the throne will you champion? The realm’s destiny lies in your hands.

CARVE YOUR OWN PATH THROUGH THE CHAOS
The kingdom of Meodred's tenuous balance of power is being shaken to its core by a terrible political crisis, while mystical forces appear to be pulling strings from the darkness. Each pretender to the throne is rallying their troops to seize the crown, as the commoners forment a revolt and the tide rises still... At the heart of this turmoil, you play as three novice relic-wielding paladins of the crown forced to make difficult decisions to ensure the kingdom doesn't descend into chaos.
Refine your paladins' personalities through dreadful choices along the story and stay true to your own principles. Pick your allies wisely and navigate through rivalries to foil conspiracies. But trust no one: in times of chaos, duplicity reigns supreme.

FEEL THE IMPACT IN EPIC BOARD-SHATTERING CARD COMBATS

Stay on your guard, as other powerful paladins follow their own allegiances - and they won't go down without a fight.
Prepare yourself during your travels and build the deck of each paladin carefully to overcome any obstacle in your way. Become a well-oiled united team fighting their adversaries and making each blow count - with style.

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players consistently praise the game's striking visuals, compelling writing, and engaging story with meaningful choices that encourage multiple playthroughs, along with fun combat mechanics. Common criticisms include some pacing issues in the later game with back-to-back battles, occasional difficulty spikes on higher settings, and minor technical problems on Steam Deck like text readability and menu glitches, though most feel these don't significantly detract from the overall experience.
I came here after having played the demo of sovereign's tower and bought this game mainly to support the developers but after playing this game I can safely say this is probably the most underrated game I have ever played, The gameplay is good but the art and story on a completely different level, this game could have the worst gameplay ever and I still would recommend it.3 found this helpful
Amazing and very underrated game! Stunning art (drawn by a real human artist Gobert!) and a very interesting narrative where your choices really matter. The game raises important topics, has multiple endings and really worth to play it, especially if you're tired of animeish-like faces and storytelling. I 1000% recommend.2 found this helpful
A good story and decent combat1 found this helpful
The Good: The art and gameplay was wonderful. Not only the design was appealing but the gameplay itself was fun. The strategy part comes out great and challenging, especially once you get to the harder difficulty modes. Crown Gambit makes sure you're engaged the entire way. The mix of 3D and 2D blends seamlessly and again, adds on to the beautiful art. The story is also great for the most part, every choice you make matters, even the tiny ones. It's also nice to see how our paladins grow up and what future they hold depending on your ending. All of your protagonists matter, and the strategy doesn't come from just gameplay, but your dialogue as depending on who you choose to talk, your goals may or may not fail. It's rare to see a game with multiple main characters that truly love all of them equally. The Bad: Crown Gambit suffers from having too many characters near the end of it. I simply just did not care for them. Though the main characters and heirs to the throne and written well, most of the paladins I fought I killed without second thought unless they had a connection to a protagonist. I assume this is to encourage replays so you can meet them through other paths, but I stil…
Overall I really liked Crown Gambit. This game has lovely art and a lot of story to tell. The combat starts very basic but quickly picks up in complexity and strategy. The branching narrative allows for a lot of your choices to have very different outcomes, which is great. Apparently there are 6 endings, of which I have seen two. (I had a choice of two endings at the end, and reloaded to see the other option). I would recommend NOT reloading your choices unless you click the wrong dialogue option accidentally, as there are a lot of characters to remember and reloading frequently will quickly make it hard to remember which side you supported in your current timeline. I have two main critiques. The first is...a lack of creativity with your card decks in early game. One full playthrough will have you obtain approximately 75% of the characters total number of available passives and active abilities from their skill tree; and while there is a good variety for a single playthrough, starting back at the beginning with very few rigid options is a little boring, and it will take up time to build up your variety again. i played my first run on Knight difficulty, but will probably do subs…
