unwanted child of NMS and Minecraft; fun concept, nice for a day or two but there are so many problems with this title; rant below 0) example of how undercooked this game is: player model can't fit by the size of exactly one tile into horizontal doors placed atop the 45degree stairs; 1) automation doesn't exist, beyond cooking one stack something on a forge with one stack of fuel, which doesn't last; 2) eco is horrible, meant for mining to be the main portion of the game, as items mid-late game take several stacks of single resource to be crafted (where do they even fit in the produced portable scanner), and give only small linear benefits, making little to no logical sense in the world with very dangerous NPCs; 3) inventories have almost no shortcuts available (take one from stack, move stack, take all from container and that's it), forcing many unnecessary interactions when dealing with inventory; 4) chests can't be named, which is a proper pain by choice as the models are detailed enough to even fit these names on them (they could be HUD only for all I care) 5) planetary vehicles are limiting at best as they smash into everything, because they move faster than game is capable…4 found this helpful
Great first impression of a lovechild between minecraft and Elite3 and Space-Engineer, but all of that with much better accessibility and significantly less initial constrains. This may just be the first game, where i like the DoF implementation, because here it really makes sense to blur the distance, that must have a much lower LoD for better performance. The higher quality (non raytraced) dynamic lighting with relatively lowres bumbmapping works very well with the whole meshed-voxel style. apparently this game works well with nucleus-coop, to allow multiplayer on a single pc.1 found this helpful
REALLY FUN
Already the bugs are getting annoying. Spawning a huge dinosaur thing on you while in a small cave, then causing you to glitch out while trying to kill it? Neat.... Melee weapons seem useless. No way to sleep either? Meh.
fun game bit buggy
For full disclosure: I got this one from the Humble Choice bundle and played the game exclusively single-player on the baseline difficulty. Cubic Odyssey is a pretty decent mash-up of Minecraft and No Man's Sky. You've got the classic block-based building formula (with some nice features I wish other block-based games would incorporate, like being able to aim at the edges of a block to place blocks on the sides of your target) with a focus on gathering and exploration. Base-building is... kind of discouraged by the galactic exploration aspect, so you're likely going to be using your ship as a base away from base. The combat overall doesn't feel great: Even on the normal difficulty enemies hit extremely hard, move incredibly quickly and erratically and have extremely precise hit detection, while your own weapons all have very thin projectiles that have a travel time: It's not easy to land your shots at range, and trying to fight in melee is a recipe for getting killed very quickly. I solved most of my combat-related problems by parking my ship near the combat zone and picking enemies off with a sniper rifle rather than engaging them at a range where they can do anything to me. T…
