Damocles Gaze

A great game with short (12 minutes) runs and a lot of replayability, with many modifiers and weapons. Synergies everywhere! Plus, I really like the art style, the music and the mystical theme.

Damocles Gaze is another fascinating experiment from PUNKCAKE Delicieux, a studio that has built a reputation around compact, unconventional indie games that emphasize raw mechanics and unusual atmosphere over cinematic spectacle. At its core, the game is a frantic top-down roguelite shooter, but what makes it memorable is how ruthlessly focused its design philosophy is. Every run is restricted to a strict twelve-minute limit, transforming the experience into a relentless sprint where hesitation often means death. Instead of encouraging players to slowly gather power over an extended campaign, the game constantly pressures them forward with escalating danger, limited breathing room, and a growing sense of inevitability hanging over every decision. That structure alone gives Damocles Gaze a unique identity in a genre crowded with sprawling progression systems and endless content loops. The combat is immediate, aggressive, and surprisingly demanding despite the game’s minimalist presentation. Enemies swarm from all directions while bullets fill the screen in increasingly chaotic patterns, forcing players to rely on reflexes, positioning, and instinct rather than brute-force upgrades…

I LOVE THIS GAME This is a great roguelike shooter with a lot of spirit that reminds me of Nuclear Throne Though the unique time limit mechanic makes it so you focus on the end game more and more as you get better in the game Also with the right card combinations YOU CAN DESTROY THE GAME and it's so much fun

Didnt feel fun at all, maybe it's just a me problem. The graphics didnt help at all the fact the upgrades feel worthless and weapons feel just too common / mundane, more considering this game was released in 2023, 8 years after games like nuclear throne and enter the gungeon. Canno recommend this whatsoever

Very simple yet effective concept, and executed incredibly well! Essentially, you choose a card every few stages that usually gives you a positive and negative effect. While this may seem rather frustrating, I'd say that Punkcake did an incredible job at balancing out all cards, as almost all of them synergise with each other. In one run you may be rampaging recklessly through any and every enemy with your insane movement and attack speed, while in another you'd be cautelous with hazards with a glass cannon build There aren't many levels to go through in a single run, and sometimes you may reach the final one with ease, but the real challenge in Damocles Gaze is its achievements, where you must unlock and complete a run with each individual card since the beggining of a run. I'd actually go as far as to say that the achievements are an integral part in the game's replayability factor, as it has only a handful of incredibly refined weapons, similarly to Nuclear Throne, but with a lower scale and experimentation (asie from the cards) You will only ever play a run to upwards of a hard cap of 12 minutes, as the game only allows you to actually die once that timer reac…
