Dark Blood Chronicles

I remember seeing a different versions of this game... sadly from what I know it's been pretty severely cut for this final version. But still it's a great and atmospheric game and deserves attention.

~I edited/added a little more to this review as I saw a couple other endings and some other thoughts~ I stumbled upon this game looking for another dark themed rpg. The odd thing is that I found it through a post on reddit in a web search and not actually initially going through all the rpgs on this site (which I actually did before multiple times). Anyhow besides the point of how I found this game there absolutely does need to be more rpgs with a style like this. It does have a sort of Shadow Hearts vibe mixed with some other ideas. The animations, graphics and just the look and sound of the game is excellent. The writing is very good too. I like the interactions between the characters. I played this game 100 percent blind (I was surprised to see there were some guides after the fact) There are some odd difficulty spikes here or there which did get me rather frustrated as wasted turns can really spell disaster for the party. Many attacks just do zero damage or very little. Since there are no random encounters (there is a training area in a castle but I just never bothered with it) I never felt very powerful for large parts of the game and would really have to use my best attac…

I love the game's pixelart, atmosphere (it reminds me a lot of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and Silent Hill). The story is also mysterious and captivating. There's a lot of extra stuff to do and collect. Some areas of the game are a bit poorly designed, since it can be hard to find your way (and there's no map, at least not that I managed to find). Despite the gripes -- I'd love to see a similar game in the future, or maybe even a sequel? :P

Dark Blood Chronicles is an okay but mixed bag of a jrpg, RPGMaker game, okay then the story. On a rainy day a young woman named Samantha wakes up from a nightmare involving her own death, but despite the strangeness of her dream today is just another ordinary day, after a brief conversation with her dad she heads to school only to discover that everyone's missing say for her friend Ethan. As they try to figure out what's going on they are soon pulled into a strange world of monsters and tasked with defeating an evil entity from rising again, but in this strange world Sam will be confronted not just of her past but who she is as a person. Alright let’s get into the likes, the story is very good with some good twists, turns and some nice buildup, some of the story also takes inspiration from the persona games with character exploration, I also like the themes of death, loss, grief, saying goodbye and overcoming the past, it was very touching and some of the story can be quite thought-provoking. The gameplay was okay, it's your standard turn based jrpg were you fight random monsters, pick up items such as healing items to heal your party or pick up weapons or clothing to improve …

Gamepad isn't working. characters are characters simply for the fact that they have quirks such as a boxer boi not knowing where the library is in the school he has studied for 4 years. leaving those there is no characters and every other character is simply the writer itself. it has scaling problems that is usual to the other few j-rpg games i have played i don't know if this could have been fixed easily but in the end what you get is problematic so i will say that as well. there isn't even a setting screen in the main menu i would have prefered the dialogue shown better but alas. steam interface also didn't work including screenshots i couldn't see any pro other than models being fluid to the entire time i played the game...
