Dark Room is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is a static image adventure game where you tap on hotspots on your iPhone screen to manage your inventory and move from static scene to static scene, a bit like how adventure games used to be before Kings Quest. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features somewhat lazy, static 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in (get it? Because it's a mobile app???) like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich c…1 found this helpful
This is a nice and short horror point & click game, I finished all of the difficulty levels in about 2.5 hours. If you want to see the full story you will need to complete each difficulty. Replaying the game goes by fast after just having played through it the first time, though. The atmosphere and visuals are great and I enjoyed the puzzles. Figuring out the codes was very tough and I had to look up the answers a few times for that part of the game. My only complaint would be that the translation is very rough. There is a unique and interesting story here but it gets held back some by the awkward translations. I got this game on sale for .59 but I would say even buy it at full price of 2.99 if you are interested.
A bit of a shame; this point & click has great potential. The art is nice to look at, atmosphere feels fitting, the story as far as I got into it felt interesting, but... the audio is awful, the mechanic of 'moving around' feels heavy and slow, the puzzles are either too easy or not logical at all,... And - like it or not - it has a slide puzzle lol. I'll watch a playthrough rather than having to play through it myself. If you have more patience and better ears than me, this game is for you. Unfortunately it just is not for me.
