I had waited to play Deca knowing there were bugs when it first came out. I'm glad I did as the game ran flawlessly for me (played Feb 2022). This game is your basic run and hide while solving puzzles and uncovering the story. You play as Alice Parker, the only survivor of the Deca Psychiatric Hospital fire. The point of the game is to uncover her memories of the events and figure out what happened at Deca and why. If you enjoy Outlast without all the sexual content, you'll enjoy Deca. If you trawl the depths of the steam horror tag pit you will occasionally strike gold, and I'm pleased to inform you that this is certainly a find. It won't set your world on fire but it's very competently done horror. There's variety in environments and enemy. The sound design is good. There is more gore and blood than you can shake a fist at. It's not a jump-scare-fest. It just forces you to exist in a grim, oppressive world, hiding from stalking horrors. Though the English translation unfortunately is every bit as dodgy as you'd expect from steam budget horrors. And the story is very bog-standard. But that isn't what you're here for. Overall it's a good game, no bugs, and a thumbs up from me. Though I will say the price tag certainly does raise an eyebrow. I got it half off, and I thought that was fair enough a price as there was enough length and variety to be found here. Although it's certainly false advertising on the store page to say it will take you 8-10 hours. It will take you half that. And that's with repeating sections due to a moderate number of failures. This game should be titled "Fumbling Around in the Dark" because that's precisely what you do. I have never seen a game that is so dark you can barely see anything. The lantern is also a joke and barely lights at all. There is also no gamma or brightness option. This game also starts Steam-VR, you cannot remap the controls, movement is clunky, camera movement is not smooth, and you have no objectives or any idea where to go or what to do, except fumble around in the pitch dark. Overall, this is a very cheap horror experience that I cannot recommend.

The first parts of this game are rough, but somewhat enjoyable. However, the later parts just become annoying. The game is like a poor man's Outlast in that it has a similar gameplay structure (sneak and run away from monsters) and similar setting (asylum). That's where the similarities end. Deca has a very basic plot conveyed in notes that use broken English and through poorly voice acted audio logs. Also, for me the scares fell flat. Most were far too predictable or the devs did a bad job of getting you to look the right way, so I only knew a jumpscare happened somewhere due to the audio cue. I probably could've forgiven all that since I got this game in a bundle for like $0.50, but the gameplay goes from janky but passable in the early sections to completely obnoxious in later sections. I got to a section in which you need to flip 5 switches while dodging blind enemies. You have to get all of switches in one go without dying. That may have worked, except the enemies kept attacking me even when I was crouched completely still in a corner behind cover.
