About Deceived Of Joy

Deceived Of Joy

When playing our game you undertake a very normal life living in a Hotel, you do tasks, listen to the radio and prepare for work. Slowly over time you might notice a few changes, cracks in the walls, sounds you've never heard before and a sense that maybe something unsettling is happening behind the scenes. You take what's called "The Miracle Pill" a new pill that has gone global, a pill that erases doubt and depression. But after loosing your pills, the world around you starts to change. Almost like the pills have made you see things you weren't meant to.You'll encounter creatures, you'll run for your life, experience world breaking illusions. Slowly loosing your mind not knowing what you'll see next. Using tools to progress, small puzzles to stump you and story telling to keep you hooked. Your goal after all is to survive and beat the nightmare you've lost your self in. This game includes extensive audio, atmospheric noises, characters, unique creatures, story telling, language and option setting support. Gameplay will vary between 1 - 2 hours, and the game includes save mechanics and subtitles.

GOOD HORROR GAME

**Pros:** Take *Deceived of Joy* as a B-movie or creepypasta take on the walking simulator genre. There is a bit of a "game" here during the chase sequence, but everything else is mostly scripted. That aside, considering the price tag and the low-budget nature of the project, it was worth it. I appreciated the experience. **Cons:** Lighting bleeds through in some scenes, the transitions between free-roam and scripted sections (and vice versa) can be janky, and you can clearly see the timing behind things like the burning webs, among other issues. I'm not sure how much experience or budget went into this game, but I hope LevelBound Studios can learn from its mistakes and continue delivering more B-movie/creepypasta-inspired experiences. Alternative takes on an already established phenomenon are always welcome.

I would consider this a walking simulator. 45 minutes-ish from start to finish. There is very little gameplay here, but that's alright. Think of it more like a surreal art piece. The price is well worth it. Graphics have that PSX or even some late 90s era MSDOS games. Nothing fancy, but it fits the mood well. Story wise I'm fairly mixed in my opinions. Much of the story is told through a radio show, which is well voice acted, but it feels like a buildup to something we never quite get to. The gameplay has you complete some menial daily tasks, with things getting a little weird as time goes on. It seemed like I needed to be at a certain spot/angle to interact with things at time and that was frustrating. In the end I guess I don't really get it. Maybe it's a story about how people chase after happiness. Maybe it's a story about neighbors and the monotony of life. Maybe.

Really enjoyed this one. Good story, unpredictable and very creative. I like the radio/podcaster guys broadcasts too. Some wild chase scenes you would not expect. Recommennded.
