Deserter: Prologue

Nice game, in the begining it was frustrating but once you learn the mechanisms of the game you will start enjoying it.

This is more than I have anticipated. Good story, stealth and good voice acting too. The only downside is now I have to wait for the full release of the game because the demo is too short, shorter than even this prologue.

Deserter: Prologue is the kind of stealth game I immediately respected because it makes escaping feel like a proper process instead of simply sneaking past a few guards. I play as John Holden, a soldier trapped in a dystopian military camp who has decided that the only way forward is to escape. I liked the bleak setting and the feeling that I have to prepare carefully before making my move. Stealth is the heart of the gameplay, but I really enjoyed the fact that I am not limited to hiding behind objects. I can steal supplies, craft tools, deceive people and make deals with other soldiers. These systems make the camp feel more like a place I have to understand rather than just a series of rooms I need to sneak through. The nightly structure gives everything a nice sense of urgency. I have time to prepare, gather what I need and decide how I want to approach the escape, but mistakes can have serious consequences. I liked this because it encourages me to think ahead instead of reacting to everything at the last second. The multiple escape routes are another strong point. This is made by the same people who created "Gone Rogue" which I had forgotten about, buried under my wishlist that's attempting to reach 10K at the moment! So anyway, I played this off-stream and as the title suggests, it's a prologue to the full game, Deserter, where you flee the army after witnessing what we'd call a war crime (unless you're a certain nation friends with many others) and after abandoning his mission after the shock and horror of what he's seen, our protagonist is given a death-sentence in the form of being sharp-shooter fodder. So, with the help of a few sympathetic men in the camp, you have to escape before the next battle and try to make it on your own. There were issues here and there, but I did report them to the devs who were happy to help and look at my save file to understand why certain achievements weren't pinging, but there were still the issues with navigating the skills menu, however, we only get a limited use of i…
