Thief's Adventure

Thief Hector was part of a crew hired to steal a mysterious blade, but the heist went terribly wrong. The team was forced to split up and disappear, leaving Hector with a much more immediate concern. Finding something to eat. A nearby house seems like the perfect place to start, and it also serves as a great introduction to the game's mechanics. You begin with only Hector, but before long you gain two more characters, each bringing their own unique abilities. The entire game is controlled with the mouse. You click on a character to make them active, then left click on a walkable area to move them or on an object to interact with it. One feature I really appreciated is the outline system that highlights anything important. White outlines mark barrels and chests you can loot, although stolen items are optional and don't have any real gameplay purpose. Red outlines indicate enemies. Enemies are the biggest obstacle between you and your objective, and you'll either have to avoid them or quietly eliminate them. Since stealth is the heart of the game, enemies don't have superhuman senses. They can't magically hear or see you from across the map. Instead, they rely on a visible gree…

Very Subtle and amazing Game!

Thief's Adventure is best described as a 2D Commandos with a lighter tone reminiscent of jrpg games. You get 12 missions that can either be played on normal or hard. There are 3 characters you will control with unique skills to make them very useful. There are optional objectives that are relegated to achievements. The implementation of achievements shown in-game under stats before starting a mission is very helpful. In general, the game goes out of its way to communicate things clearly, the UI is pleasantly basic which leaves little room for confusion and the gameplay is kept manageable, this is quite an accomplishment for a genre I find hard to get into. The levels are excellently designed, the story is interesting enough to follow (even if it's not original), every part of the game is very polished and it's just a joy to play. When it comes to cons, I would have loved to check the optional objectives/achievements WHILE doing a mission as well. I had to check the achievement list on steam overlay all the time. It's a super minor nitpick but the developer could have went all the way to lean harder on that aspect. Having options to increase the speed of dialogues would have als…

It's basically the SNES version of Commandos. Expect to get around 8 hours worth of playtime. (Maybe a bit more if going for every achievement, or probably twice if replaying it on hard) There aren't really any new concepts being introduced after the demo, so the game scales up by having increasingly larger maps instead of focusing on puzzles or new gameplay concepts. This is fairly common throughout the genre, so that's OK. Definitely worth it at the price I bought it at.

A nice little game with neat art-style, music and sound design in general. If you like Commandos-like games and like this art-style, I can absolutely recommend this game. Normal difficulty has been good so far - makes you think but not frustrating, I didn't have to retry a level too many times (for Normal). I haven't finished even a half of the game yet - but I'm already sure I'll get by $7 worth of fun out of it. As an old RTS player I switched control scheme to "classic RTS" which is "left-click to select, right-click to command", and there are hotkeys so it was easy to get used to. Some of the guard's quotes don't have voiceover - maybe this will be fixed/added soon? All in all it's a cute Commandos or Desperados-like game, and it's really cheap - so I'd say try the demo and see if you like it.

This is a very fine RTT with PIxel Graphics. If you enjoy Mimimi's games or Commandos, you will feel right at home. Yes, it has simplified pixel arts. But it works in favor of this game. You have all info you need right on the screen, no zooming needed, no camera turning. It also is quite challeging and features at least 5 to 6 hours of puzzling.
