About Devils Run

Meet Brim, one of many for-contract gem hunters. Brim's latest assignment? A gem-rich planet in the far east, part of the volatile galaxy. All is well until the unthinkable happens; the planet begins to erupt, filling in with lava. Now in a perilous situation, your mission is to jump, flip, and swing through 10 treacherous levels to your ship to escape. While you're on your way back to your ship, collect the gems that you can, imploding planets are no reason to miss quota!

I really like the cartoon/retro styling of the graphics and the level designs. Reminds me of the feel of the old game Psychonauts, yet still feels modern in quality and unique as well! The overall game play felt really good once you get a hang of the flow of the game which has a parkour feel in the movement but can be unforgiving if you get ahead of yourself. I enjoyed how the game was not too difficult, but did require some technique and thinking to pass certain points which gave it a good challenging feel. Grabbing the gems was a fun challenge as well if you wanted to up the ante with the lava changing speed. I am looking forward to seeing how they expand upon this if they do or their next release!

Update 2: All achievements work now and swing indicator has been improved further. Update: after the latest updates the swing is more visible; it puts an arrow on the screen when it's possible to swing. I can't say how the path and directions have been adjusted because I'm too familiar with the stages' layout. The stage 6 achievement still hasn't been fixed since the release so I don't recommend it to achievement hunters. Despite some unstable controls and no directions, this short runner is great for a playthrough. The story’s pretty basic and not important. Despite the hellish appearance, you’re actually an alien searching for gems. Unfortunately, the planet you are on is unstable and is collapsing. Now you need to get out of there and maybe pick up a few gems along the way. Gameplay involves running forward and performing platforming moves to overcome obstacles. Because of floaty main hero, controls take some getting used to. You must also become accustomed with your primary skills: jumping, double jumping, dash, and swinging. A couple of design decisions do not translate into an enjoyable experience. One issue is that jump and double jump require distinct buttons. This me…
