I'd be lying if I said that this game doesn't feel like an awkward and cheap mobile port, but I'd also be lying if I said it isn't fun. It has some interesting mechanics and will keep you well-entertained for 30-60 minutes. If that's enough for you, go for it.

Diggerman is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is an ultra simple thematic ripoff of games like Steamworld Dig, but much worse quality, and with much shallower gameplay (and shallow is the last thing you want, this is a mining game!! geddit???). You've got a 2D side view mine and you must dig as deep as you go before your battery runs out. You can only dig 45 degrees down left or right, so you just tap left and right on your iPhone screen and try plot a course that will dig through batteries and money (I don't know why the developers think people bury batteries and money underground). Money buys you upgrades, and there's a shallow story mode so you can "progress" though the game, not that you would want to, because it's garbage. Like, this is much worse than Steamworld Dig, costs around the same, and I didn't even like Steamworld Dig. From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. I…

Diggerman, developed by Digital Melody and published by Forever Entertainment S. A., is a colorful arcade-style digging adventure that combines reflex-driven gameplay with light progression systems and a playful narrative hook. The premise is simple and intentionally whimsical: a massive mole has kidnapped the protagonist’s beloved, and it’s up to Diggerman to burrow deep beneath the earth to rescue her. While the story serves primarily as a lighthearted motivation for the action, it provides just enough context to frame the descent as a purposeful journey rather than a purely abstract arcade challenge. At its core, Diggerman revolves around downward excavation. Players carve their way through layers of earth, avoiding hazards and collecting treasures along the way. Movement is responsive and easy to grasp, allowing players to focus on timing and positioning rather than complex inputs. However, beneath this simplicity lies a steady escalation of challenge. Environmental threats such as falling rocks, spikes, explosive TNT, lava pools, and aggressive underground creatures create constant pressure. Each hazard demands quick decision-making, and lingering too long in a dangerous area…

This is absolutely a phone game port (you literally just press left or right) but it's still a blast. Weirdly enjoyable, better than the sum of its parts.
