Very interesting concept but bad quality of life, balance issues, and the game's mechanics are too vaguely explained, and too poorly visualised. I feel fascinated and frustrated at the same time. Most quality issues are weird in the sense that they are both glaring and trivial to fix, but somehow they aren't fixed. I don't get it. Maybe the developers don't play their own game, or maybe they only play it with all the automation enabled (not exactly my cup of tea). The game is prone to crashes, roughly one in 10 hours of play. Reducing the autosave interval is a must. This interval is in game minutes, not real life minutes, so it does not save while paused. If you have been doing something during pause you risk losing all that progress to a crash if you do not remember to save manually. If you really need to scratch a space 4X itch you might get something out of this, the game is far from horrible, but prepare to suffer. And unlike me you still have a chance to support a more caring developer instead.9 found this helpful
Tired of Stellaris' BS? Want to just enjoy a 4X with some nice tactical elements instead of a RTS pretending to be a 4X ? Well go away. We're not doing that here. We're pretending to not-not be Stellaris while also still being legally distinct. We do have less constant war and you can automate a lot if you can't figure out our arcane systems - excuse me- suck at learning. Come for the economics simulation, stay for the uh leave for the oh look they are scalping the previous title's factions as overpriced DLC.5 found this helpful
Very interesting premise, but in practice you're basically not in control unless you feel like micro-ing a buncha meaning-less ♥♥♥♥. I thought I'd be the admiral for my fleet but kept getting attacked guerilla style by random pirates due to the FTL system where pretty much anything can go anywhere at anytime. I actually thought that was really cool. It opened up so many possibilities that things like stellaris streamlined away with strict, chokepoint-y hyperlanes. I daydreamed about deep-space black sites and shadow fleets laying in wait in deep space during a conflict only to sail out of nowhere for the perfect decapitation strike, and the need to build a sensor networks so my enemies don't do the same to me. I thought about the insane secrets I might find just laying out there in deep space. Well all of that was pretty misguided. While theoretically possible, the execution of these concepts is very, very lackluster, as is true of pretty much all the promises in the game. While on the surface, the game pretends to be complicated, in reality it's actually really, really simple. Mind-numbingly so. Basically the only complicated thing to understand is all the weird-ass stats a…4 found this helpful
I re-played this game many, many, many times and every time I enjoy it1 found this helpful
this is an awesome 4X real time strategy. i do like it better then stellaris (which i put hundreds of hrs into). it does have a learning curve like all games but it is not bad. you can make it as hard or easy as you want.1 found this helpful
Space libertarian makes intricate clockwork universe with a detailed economic simulation of private and public sectors. Also there are giant evil space spiders, Ewoks with a strict caste system, and green xeno-hussies. Interesting game, worth supporting the dev.
