About Draft of Darkness
Draft of Darkness is a roguelike RPG in a post-apocalyptic setting with survival horror, deck building and resource management mechanics. Choose a survivor, build your starting deck, and delve into the darkness!
During your journey:
Each card in Draft of Darkness can be used by equipping a type of weapon. Determine your strategy by building unique decks combining cards from different weapon types. Each weapon has unique mechanics that can be mixed and matched for insane combos!
Find friends and foes lurking deep within the dark corners of the Residence, lurking in the shadows of the Streets, or even victims of the Lair's hostility. Manage the status of your party, avoid radiation and infection at all costs!
Delving into the dark and dungeon-like maps will see you face a variety of infected and gruesome foes. Every successful combat encounter adds to your darkness level, the higher the darkness the more dangerous the stage becomes. However, survive the darkness and you may be richly rewarded.
At the end of every run, even if you fail, you will receive credits that can be used to open booster packs to unlock new starting cards for your next run. Every death is a chance to try out new strategies!
Draft of Darkness has a unique "meta-story progression" system, where every decision can alter the outcome of the story and allow for new ways to progress. You might try different choices on your next run, but be careful. Some have serious consequences.
During your journey:
- Fight infected creatures, government robots, and other survivors in an ammo-focused turn-based card battle system.
- Explore the post-apocalyptic city consumed by darkness. Each map is procedurally generated and unique with every run.
- Recruit a party of survivors to help you on your journey. Each has their own deck of abilities!
- Trade to collect better equipment and cards, which you can use to strengthen your companions.
- Manage the darkness. The more enemies you slay, the darker and more dangerous the map becomes. However, Darkness brings rewards.
- Make important story-based decisions. Your choices are key to progressing the story.

It introduces concepts not often found in card games. The inventory and character level ups offer (somewhat) interesting choices outside of deckbuilding. Instead of moving through nodes, you move on a real map, trying to avoid enemies across paths and triggering events that can even unlock stuff outside of the run. The events in particular are quite interesting for me because they ask you to get specific items or solve real puzzles that unlock new characters or story. One aspect that I disliked though was that cards are powered by consumables. In theory the resource scarcity (often used in horror games) creates a tense, unnerving setting where every encounter is a dance between death and reward. In practice, you play weaker but resource-free versions of cards to save up the resources for boss battles. This often needlessly extends the length combat vs mobs because your DPS suffered. i never liked deck builder but this game was an expection it really is a good deck build but be warnned its very hard every small fight is like a boss fight (i like that)
Very underrated game, I wasn't expecting so much content. My only criticism would be that once you disable the music it also disables the environment sounds on overmap, taking away some of the immersion. I only wanted to remove the combat music (it gets repetitive fast), but you either disable all or nothing. If you like horror and deckbuilders this game did it right.
I've enjoyed my time with DoD, unfortunately these days I'm a little tired of roguelike deckbuilders. This one was pretty unique though.
