Dungeon Drafters

Dungeon Drafters is a game that combines the grid-based character movement of an SRPG with deckbuilding and card battling. Characters may be customized with an equippable item called a Curio and slotted tablets called Runes. Cards are categorized into separate colors, and your Runes determine which cards you can put into your deck. Cards with more powerful effects generally require more Runes dedicated to their specific color. For example, a card that shoots a fireball may require 1 red Rune, and a card that shoots multiple fireballs side-by-side may require 2 or 3 red Runes. I think Dungeon Drafters does a good job of making sure that each of the card colors has a distinct identity with little overlap. Red cards are good at inflicting direct damage. Blue cards excel at summoning helpers and manipulating the enemy side. Green cards allow you to move across the battlefield while drawing through your deck. Yellow cards offer great defense and indirect damage. And purple cards offer powerful effects with significant downsides to maneuver around. This is a very high quality game aside from some bugs and a specific gripe I have with the final part of the Tower dungeon. In the positive, the card battler element of the game is well thought out and provides a number of interesting playstyles which can be combined across types of cards. Most of my time playing the game was extremely fun, even if I was just trying progress a quest challenge rather than reach the end of the game. That said I need to mention a specific bug I encountered. Partial progress on quests seems to be eliminated if one uses the check point system between floors in dungeons aside from the tower. I have noticed on two occasions that this occurred which wiped out a nice chunk of progress on a hard quest which I didn't appreciate having to redo. This checkpoint system also clears prior buffs obtained in the dungeon, like the one that lets you see the whole floor. As for my negative with the Tower, while it becomes appropriately more difficult, the deeper you get in it the longer the fights get. As such I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to finish this game because I'm not sure I want to spend an hour to 2 hours trying to get to the end boss again only to …

This game is great! Very cute, the quality of life features are decent (you can select cards with number keys!) Kept me playing for far longer than similar games

Very fun game for what it is. Pixel Art style is cool, tcg mechanics meld pretty well with the dungeon exploration theme, nothing super earth-shattering here, but it's a well-done indie with a good soundtrack, good visuals, and enough depth to the combat to keep you interested.

Pretty grindy and tedious. There are some good ideas here, nice card design, and good art and music, but man is it a slog. The worst part is the limited movement and turn economy. Everything feels like it's designed to wear you down. Enemies teleport away while not doing damage, your cards don't do much damage, and you're constantly trying to get into position to DO ANYTHING. It plays like one of those games where the design was cobbled together on paper and then the devs either did very little playtesting, or decided to stick with frustrating design instead of making the game a smoother experience. The economy is also weirdly broken and restricted at the same time. You can get huge amounts of money and resources, but have not much worth spending on. You can pick from six different playable characters, but you're really picking aesthetics since 2 runs after start you can pretty much change your deck to whatever you want. The city is a huge sprawling area that's obnoxious to move through since you have to hop-step across each agonizing tile (even holding shift to move faster, which also makes the ENTIRE GAME move faster).
