Suitable for both new and seasoned TTRPG players, Draw Steel was designed and tested around a Director with 3-6 players, but is flexible for parties both larger and smaller.
What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise this Draw Steel VTT for being smooth, intuitive, and purpose-built for the game with helpful features like popout tokens, though some find it immersive-breaking if players aren't roleplaying actively. Common complaints include the steep price structure requiring separate Steam keys per player group, incomplete ability implementations, occasional UI issues with panel rearrangement, and spotty audio connectivity, though most agree the tool is worth purchasing despite its early development stage.
Needs some polish on the UI. From all my tests this is a great product to have if you play draw steel. But... People don't play Draw Steel. It feels like a cool system but the marketing was absolute ass. Not for this but for the system overall.
It's Draw Steel! from MCDM. They took all the good stuff about all the different things they have played in the past, and put it into a new VTT without taking any of the bad. The system makes D&D look like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The VTT makes all the others I've used look like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's still in EA, and better than a lot of VTTs that are years if not decades old. They are still actively working on it, every week seems to be a new update, and all the updates make meaningful fixes and add more content. If i could give two thumbs up, I would. If i could give ten thousand thumbs up, i would. I cannot recommend this enough.
Excellent rules set expertly implemented. The team does a really good job at taking community feedback, as well as having gotten as much put into the system as they have already. I look forward to many more hours of play!
If you're already interested in the Draw Steel tabletop roleplaying game, then this is the best way to play. As a virtual table top enthusiast (2800+ hours in Roll20 and probably more on Foundry), I was immediately very impressed with the automation and quality of life, especially with it being early access. It is well worth the asking price of $19.99, even considering that each person needs their own copy.
Desperately needs a good tutorial. Otherwise great.
If you like the Draw Steel system, and you play online more often or at least as often as not, I would recommend this software tool. It simplifies all of the necessary tracking and even helps teach the system to new players and more experienced alike. Still in testing so it does have a few bug, but they seem to be addressing any major issues quickly and adding the quality of the program as they go.
