About Dropsy

✦ AI summary

Help a disgraced clown hug strangers, solve puzzles, and uncover dark secrets across an open world as he seeks redemption after a tragic fire. This unconventional point-and-click adventure strips away text dialogue for visual communication and lets you explore at your own pace, talking to animals and spreading kindness to unravel the mysteries of Dropsy's past.

After a deadly circus fire shatters his world and tarnishes his name, Dropsy the Clown finds himself on a journey of self-discovery through a story that harnesses themes of love and unmerited kindness. With his father gravely ill and the world turning its back on the once celebrated clown, Dropsy will need to help those in need, hug total strangers, and unearth dark secrets on the winding road to redemption. Oh, and Dropsy can also talk to animals.

Dropsy is a non-traditional take on the classic point and click adventure formula starring the game's perpetually carefree namesake clown as he explores a richly detailed world full of colorful characters and sinister secrets, doling out hugs along the way. Rather than lead players on a singular narrative path, players are free to determine which avenues of adventure they want to explore in an open world setting and can piece the puzzles together at their own pace.
  • Open World Adventure – Players are free to choose which avenues of adventure they want to explore in an open world setting and can piece many of the puzzles and story bits together however they choose.
  • Text Free Experience – Communicate with a bizarre and colorful cast of characters through an innovative use of visual icons rather than traditional text-based dialog trees.
  • Puzzles and Hugs – Challenging puzzles and complex conundrums stand between Dropsy and the secrets behind his shrouded past. With clever thinking, tender hugs, and the help of his animal friends, Dropsy can overcome evil and win the hearts of the people around him.
  • Evocative Soundtrack – From gentle electric piano and saxophone melodies of the starting area, to the space echo drenched dub reggae tracks of a vampire-hunting swamp village, to the bombastic fuzzed out quasi-prog-rock of the endgame sequences, Chris Schlarb and his band of minstrels give every area in the game a distinct sense of place.

I'm not a fan of point n click games, but I decided to give this game a try, bcz it was on sale for less than a dollar, and honestly it was completely worth it! Dropsy it's a low-paced, "cozy" game I'd say, so take that into consideration. It has no dialog nor text (at least not in a comprehensive language), but still tells a wholesome story with beautiful pixel-artwork and soundtrack. The tasks are simple, yet interesting, and they require looking and searching around different objects that could help the characters, or objects that are related to the backstory of them. I love the message of not judging a book by it's cover, being able to surpass trauma, and the positive resolution of the problems. Sometimes you just need a hug and someone telling you that what you feel is completely valid!

I initially checked this game out/had it on my wishlist after playing Hypnospace Outlaw, and just had to know what else the creator(s) had done since it was such an original piece of work - genuine art. I came across Dropsy. This game is also a pretty original piece of work. Awesome art, music ranging from goofy and zany, to nice grooves and jams. The story is basically non-existent, but I don't think that makes or breaks games. This is a cute point and click adventure game (and sometimes not so cute and out of this world), wholly dependent on visuals to find items - there are no puzzles/deductions. The game itself is enjoyable, nothing too crazy in terms of gameplay. The one BIG detriment this game has is it is riddled with bugs. I unfortunately was unable to 100% my file due to one of the items I found not registering and unable to be reloaded back onto the map. I didn't catch it in time (Page 5). There were a couple other bugs with the mouse sequences and swapping to Dropsy where it would have your whole cast disappear and break the scene, for example. Achievements don't load in when you actually achieve them and require game restarts for whatever reason. Normally, these bug…

the most intensely charmed I have been by a game in years and it's the grotesque clown. Story's pretty much nonexistent but great music and a stoner lesbian so it evens out it my book

Interesting game, amazing artstyle, although had an issues where the steam achievements wouldn't appear unless I turned the game on and off.
