DUCK: Dangerous Ultimate Cartridge Kidnapper

I really like the base idea of this: a group of duck friends find a cartridge which has 100 games on it and they decided to play it at home, however the cartridge has a spirit and traps all of them to play the games on the cartridge. They have to beat 20 games each without failing too many times to beat the spirit. After a character beats 10 games, the next 5 going to get a little bit more difficult somehow, and for the next 4 the difficulty increases again. It has lot of different mini games from different time of gaming history, which are either referencing well known games or the general games which you can find in those time, and I think this is really cool. The controls and the gameplay are well explained for all of the mini games and the original difficulty gives enough challenge for the player. There are also secrets in certain mini games which can unlock additional content for the whole game. There is also a couch multiplayer for it. The sound design fitting as well. However there are some mini games which are just annoying to play, either because of the controls are not fitting well for that game type or the mini game is really difficult and has traps in it which you can…

Trying to be warioware, micro games are 6 times longer than a warioware game and tend to be too involved.

I hate not recommending a game by a small dev and I did have a bit of fun, but there's some fundamental problems with the game's design and marketing that make my review feel more like a warning. All the store page videos make it look like WarioWare with lots of short mini games. Most of DUCK is that and these microgames are pretty fun. Even when things get difficult, the original mode gives you an opportunity to enter a cheat code to replay and easy mode just lets you retry it regardless. Then you get to the boss levels. They generally feel like really polished game jam submissions, but some are way too long. I paid 8.99 hoping for a game with fun, brisk mini games, not a 2D forced movement precision platforming level that requires you to memorize a very specific route through a pretty large level. So much trial and error, just too frustrating. Another boss game is a first person labyrinth where you collect some stuff, which the dev assures us it can be completed in under one minute in the discussion boards. This game is fun for it being a package of mini games! The story is great and its very understandable (maybe after a few failed attempts but you'll get it!) also Ducks! Lots of ducks! I love it! 10/10
