About Empathy: Path of Whispers

Blinking against the light, you step into a world that seems broken apart, almost dead… Yet there is a pulse, beating faintly in the back of your mind. What has happened in this place, where the people are gone and their memories echo in the silence? Where emotions appear as physical things, hanging in the air, just waiting for someone to reach out…

Empathy: Path of Whispers is an atmospheric and story-driven adventure game where you explore a seemingly abandoned world through the emotions and memories of the people who once inhabited it, trying to restore the world’s lost balance as you journey through its past. With a strong focus on storytelling and exploration, players will find themselves in a surreal world created from people’s emotions and memories, which can be manipulated and explored. Those lost memories are the key to rebuilding the crumbling world back to its former state, discovering its mysterious past and halting an impending apocalypse. Through its innovative narrative mechanics the game will challenge the player to explore and gain an understanding of the weird world they are traveling through.

Game Features:
  • Discover and explore other peoples’ memories in order to change the world around you, solve puzzles and access new areas.
  • Traverse a strange world and uncover what triggered the silent apocalypse.
  • Follow a narrative as it develops, interwoven with your exploration.
  • Experience the story through multiple first person perspectives and use your wits to piece the events together.

Game has a fatal bug in act 2 where a required scene does not trigger properly. Bug has been known for over 7 years according to community posts but still hasn't been fixed.

PLayed for about half an hour and got stuck already two times on some ledges with no other way to get out than to restart. To progress you need to 'solve' some kind of 'puzzle' which is boring and annoyingly stupid. Support for my game controller is mediocre at best. So far the story seems to be quite blunt. I am not sure if I am going to explore the game more - it does not really seem to be worth it.

Short, calm, kinda weird in a good way. It’s basically a walking sim where you run around colorful ruins collecting memory fragments and listening to people’s thoughts. No combat, no stress, just vibes. The world looks really nice — very bright, surreal, almost dream-like. The music fits it perfectly too. It’s the kind of game you play when you don’t want to think too hard but still want something with a bit of meaning behind it. Puzzles are simple. Nothing crazy. You’re not going to get stuck for hours. It’s more about the atmosphere than difficulty. It’s short (like 2 hours), but it doesn’t drag. A diamond with a thrilling story. Very good game. 8/10

Sadly this game is giving me severe Motion sickness. I think what causes this is the Graphics, my brain cant really work with graphics that change in detail so much. This game has a lot of very drastically different graphic resolutions, some objects look like they have 1000x the pixel count then others, there is no real universal resolution under the objects/world. Its like some graphics are hand drawn, some are pixelart, some are from a random repository and some are 4k, its really mixed up. The Fps cap of 62 Fps probably also does its thing but that can be removed with a bit of config changes. So everybody who also tends to motion sickness be aware.

I really enjoyed the solitude of this game, the only real buzzkill was the horrendous narration. It sounded like a bored college kid being paid to read some lines, badly.
