About End of Night

End of Night is a CINEMATIC VR experience about the tormenting memories of one man's escape from Denmark to Sweden during WWII.

It is an artistic mix of advanced technologies such as photogrammetry and volumetric video, blended together into a collage-like 3D universe. Although realistic in its depiction of war-torn Copenhagen, and based on real accounts, the fictional experience unfolds like dimly recalled fragments of a painful memory.

The audience is placed in the passenger seat of a rowboat with six degrees of freedom, sitting face to face with Josef. Through the physical proximity to him and his vivid stories of both heroic and immoral acts, the audience become intimate observers of the trauma experienced by a young man forced to flee his own country.

The experience reflects on the theme of survivor's guilt and the impossible choices that people on the run have to make in order to save their own lives.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
This is a purely cinematic experience. It's approximately 50 minutes long, so it's one of the longest VR movies on Steam. For whatever reason, the app makes you click install from the app itself, instead of installing the whole thing from Steam (outside of VR). So you should probably step away as it took a few minutes to install completely for me. You only use motion controllers to click install and then click on play. Make sure OpenXR is the default for Meta PC app, or it will not start in VR on the Meta Quest. Unfortunately, the visuals aren't that great in VR. I think the art-style didn't help, plus I believe the scale just isn't right. It's an artistic film about the WW2 holocaust, specifically Josef fleeing Nazi-occupied Denmark. It's a harrowing story that plays like a memoir. You can juxtapose this atrocity with the current genocide in Palestine I suppose. We will never forget, but some people have forgotten. In any event, the story could have been better directed. The visuals could have been better. The sound mix was off as well in several places. In some ways, I think the artistic choice had more to do with getting the film t…

Worth the Hamburger money. A great experience. Don't expect hours of long game play.

I could not finish it because of the eyes strain. I had the impression it would be a 3D experience with real depth like modern VR, but unfortunally is more similar to 3D videos on Youtube or similar, with painfully bad depth perception. I was intrigued a lot by the volumetric captures and the story, but then again, is more like watching a video of a volumetric capture. The only true full depth 3D is the main menu, so is even more of a let down going from it to the actual video.

It's not working, I spent 1.1 hours in the game just for downloading the game but still didn't make it work. it got up to 11% the highest and then dropped back to 0% again. Perhaps they should change a server or include the game in the steam download instead of an extra file to download inside the game. I don't know if I should keep the game and perhaps one day it will work or just give up and refund it.
