Evergate combines precise platforming with clever puzzle mechanics centered around its Soulflame ability. Levels gradually introduce new ideas, keeping the gameplay fresh without becoming overwhelming. The beautiful visuals and emotional soundtrack create a relaxing atmosphere even during more challenging sections. A polished indie puzzle-platformer that's both thoughtful and rewarding.6 found this helpful
Evergate, developed by Stone Lantern Games and published by PQube, is a beautifully melancholic puzzle-platformer that blends spiritual storytelling with precise, skill-based gameplay. Set in a dreamlike vision of the afterlife, the player takes on the role of Ki, a small soul traversing through ethereal worlds to rediscover memories of her past life and earn the right to reincarnate. What begins as a simple journey of light and movement gradually unfolds into a deeply emotional tale, carried by hand-drawn artistry, a haunting orchestral score, and a series of ingenious mechanics centered around the Soulflame—a unique gameplay system that defines the entirety of Evergate’s identity. The world of Evergate immediately captivates through its visual and auditory elegance. Every frame looks like a painting brought to life, rendered in delicate lines, soft colors, and glowing effects that evoke both warmth and sorrow. The hand-drawn aesthetic, combined with seamless transitions between levels, gives the impression of wandering through a living watercolor storybook. Its art direction thrives on contrast: light and shadow, memory and oblivion, serenity and despair. Each realm Ki visits ca…3 found this helpful
I really enjoyed playing this game! Its a little short but the game-play and story are very compelling. The visuals and sound track are also incredible! The mechanics are also very unique and fun to work with. If you enjoyed Ori and the blind forest I would recommend this game! Pros: 10/10: Visuals and Sound Track 8/10: Mechanics and control 8/10: Story Cons: * Game is somewhat short (about 10hrs for main story line) but there is extra content and its within reason for other games in its price range. If you can pick it up on one of steams sales it is 100% worth it. * Difficulty: This is nothing compared to Ori and the blind forest but this game is pretty unforgiving. If you miss step even once between check points you will probably have to restart. Checkpoints are pretty short, but it can be a little annoying Conclusion: I highly recommend this game! It has an incredibly unique twist to platforming that is very rewarding and different from anything I have seen before. The story, visuals, and soundtrack are also amazing!
A short and sweet game but very enjoyable all the way through. Some of the puzzles were tricky enough to make me go "Hmmmm" for a bit but never so frustrating as to feel unfair. Solid music, cute art style - I definitely recommend this game if you like the platforming genre and have ~8 hours to kill.
