About Rogue Legacy

✦ AI summary

Fight your way through procedurally generated castles as a succession of flawed heroes, each with unique traits and abilities, knowing that death only makes your lineage stronger through manor upgrades. This roguelike masterpiece combines brutal difficulty with genuine progression and charm, letting anyone be a hero—even if you're colorblind, a dwarf, or afflicted with vertigo.

Rogue Legacy is a genealogical rogue-"LITE" where anyone can be a hero.

Each time you die, your child will succeed you. Every child is unique. One child might be colorblind, another might have vertigo-- they could even be a dwarf.

That's OK, because no one is perfect, and you don't have to be perfect to win this game. But you do have to be pretty darn good because this game is HARD. Fortunately, every time you die all the gold you've collected can be used to upgrade you manor, giving your next child a step up in life and another chance at vanquishing evil.

But you shouldn't listen to me. You should check out the trailer. It explains the game better then I ever could.

If you really want to READ about this game though, then you should check out our bullet list below.

Here's what Rogue Legacy IS:
  • A procedurally generated adventure. Explore new castles with every life.
  • Rogue-lite. Your character dies, but with each passing your lineage grows and becomes stronger.

  • Massive, expandable skill tree. Rack in the loot to upgrade your manor and give your successors a cutting edge.
  • Oh yeah, there's a Blacksmith and an Enchantress shop but we forgot to show them in the trailer...
  • Equip your heroes with powerful weaponry and armor. Or gain new abilities like flight, dash, and air jumping.
  • Tons of secrets and easter eggs to uncover... or are there? Yes there are.
  • Got a controller? Play with a controller. Big Picture ready.
  • Clowns.

10/10, one of the best action roguelikes ever! Play as a hero that has unique traits (Shinobi, Paladin etc.) and attempt to navigate through all the castle's areas!! Unique levels everytime you play! Level up each time you get enough Gold, Getting further each time you play! So essentially an action roguelike with RPG elements! One of the best Roguelites i've ever played! Good price but if you're not sure, buy it on sale, its well worth it! There is also a sequel!

Fun enough, simple, but doesn't control well. Everything feels awkward, delayed, and just a little bit wrong. Not enough to make the game unplayable, sure, but enough to make me hesitate to pick this up over other rogue-lite games which feel more fluid.

The game is so addictingly good... Although it's just a platformer, I swear I have never felt that much 'DAFAQ??!?!'-deaths in my life. Not even in Dark Souls. A lot of black humour as well :) absolutely enjoyed. Now for RL2.

Simple concept, tricky to master, super replayable. Semi-random children sent to the slaughter so you can slowly upgrade your manor as a whole. Go for challenge chests to gain rune powers or equipment, but you still need to have the gold to smith them or the weight to carry it all- and then health, or damage, or extra classes... I can confidently say I'm doing alright for using only my keyboard- no controller. Because upgrades only happen after you die and start a new run- the danger is playing too many consecutive hours. It encourages you to sink a buncha time right into it. Even so, its building towards consistency - rather than in Isaac where powerups and so much else is random. This game does feel like even if you suck, you will gain some sort of benefit even if you stay to the starting areas and just farm enough gold to gain health or damage or armor. I got this heavily on sale so check that out since there is a sequel but I doubt my old pc could handle it.

Terrible controls. The concept is all right, execution is awful.
