I focused my stats, being a thief, on persuasion and "doing unethical things". I couldn’t pick locks, I literally failed three out of three times which made absolutely no sense to me. I wasn't a nice person, I wasn't committing "ethical acts" and yet being a thief was useless as hell. That's no way to have fun. Needless to say, I didn't find it fun to keep playing. I thought the first time might've been an accident, but then when I failed to pick locks a third time AND wasn't able to dodge attacks either (I thought being a thief was about being nimble and stealthy wtf) I just had to drop the game and seriously regret giving the game a chance. The whole "uncovering clues" system was neat and I found it very fun, but either you don't give me the option to "shape my character" at all or you commit to the act. Seriously threw me off my game.

A satisfying story with good twists and choices to choose from! The story is intriguing and had me invested in how it would progress. With characters that were diverse in personality, the general discussions and romance dialogues were sweet and vibrant. I'd say solving the murder and the mystery offers less flexbility, but the story does lead and diverge in ways that align with your choices. I'm happy with how the story played out, and felt that it offers enough that I want to replay through it to explore different endings and dialogue options from the characters. If you're a fan of fantasy and looking for a quick but engaging story, this is a good read!

It's a good game. I have some issues with it, but if you have the money to spare and enjoy these games simply for the love of the art, you will not go wrong with Evertree Inn. The writing itself is fine. Nothing particularly incredible, but it set the tone well enough. A single route can be finished in less than an hour if you read quickly. Very short for a paid game, but as I said --- buy it for the love of the art, not because you're looking for the best interactive novel on the market. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who is not already a fan of the genre. I do have to praise its customization. The ability to shape your character to be whatever you want it to be is what I look for in these types of games, so I was very pleasantly surprised. They allow you the choice of race, gender, eye color, sexual preferences, and motivations in life. Not the [i]most[/i] customizable game I've played, but good enough that I felt like I was playing my own character in this world, rather than controlling a blank MC that I'm meant to project myself upon.
