About Extra Coin

They replaced the old world with a new one, a better one.

As wars tore the globe apart and overpopulation pushed humanity to the brink, a lifeline emerged: The Arcade, a virtual world offering escape. In this digital utopia, everything is vibrant and shiny, everything runs smoothly... or so we’ve been led to believe.
Mika never trusted The Arcade’s ads, but her parents did. Hoping for a better life, they left without an explanation. Now, she’s stepping into The Arcade to find them and uncover the truth behind its glossy facade.
Delve into The Arcade cityExplore the streets of this virtual world to discover everything it has to offer. From die hard duelists to lazyheads, you’ll find a unique crowd of people living here. Just be careful not to touch them in any way, it might trigger unwanted bugs. New day new loopEvery day is a loop, giving you the freedom to spend your time and choose your activities as you see fit. Fancy a movie night or a gym session or maybe a duel? The Arcade has a spot for it all. However, keep in mind that slacking off won’t go unnoticed; not everyone appreciates a lack of enthusiasm. Duel your way upClimb the leaderboard of The Arcade by engaging in spectacular boss battles where you can enhance your strategy with up to 50 ultimates and 60 abilities. Who knows, maybe one loop you’ll be one of those champions like the ones you see on the megascreens. Keep yourself busy with activitiesThe Arcade is brimming with things to do, with new minigames around every corner of the city. No time will be wasted because even something as simple as playing dice with a cat can boost a useful stat. Find. Your. Parents. It won’t be easy in a world where everyone looks the same and real names are erased by decree. Mika must uncover leads and seek allies in a place where trust seems like a distant illusion. To reunite with her family, she’ll need to confront her deepest fears and doubts, pushing through a web of deception and uncertainty.

What I liked: Visual style The setting and synopsis Variety of minigames Little Easter Eggs like an NPC wearing
Link's costume
What wasn't quite so good: The duels I missed one of the features of the game entirely (apparently, there is a social media app you can post to as a character) I wish it was a bit longer or the world had a bit more depth Repetitive unfinished bits (like the keyboard mappings) for a game that's out for 2 years I am a bit on the fence about this game. I enjoyed it. While there wasn't anything broken or wrong with the game, I didn't leave feeling satisfied, victorious or impacted by the story. I would still reccomend it if you like the art style, or want to play the duels as that would bring a lot of options to replay.

I highly recommend it — it’s a very, very nice game! I played through it in three days, and I’m pretty sure I had a major bug because I was never able to change my character’s cosmetics. It didn’t bother me that much anyway. The playthrough is so smooth — I didn’t see the time pass. Normally, after a few hours of playing, I tend to skip dialogue because I’d rather play than read, but this game kept me engaged the whole time. One slightly disappointing thing, in my opinion, is that you can’t continue playing normally after finishing the main story — you have to go back to a previous save. But this system does make it easier to get the different endings.

If you answered no, you would probably fit right in at The Arcade, where you can take a new shot at life. You can escape depression, fear, and anxiety and live a perfect existence forever, uploaded to the digital cloud, doesn't that sound amazing!? If you answered yes, you might become an oppressor. You would see these poor sacks of flesh and bone throwing away their lives, families and future to a corporation that would do anything to exploit them for control and profit. Extra Coin dives into these concepts of life and virtual reality, using the current conflict within America as the cornerstone of why people would be willing to give everything up. Visually, I was drawn in by its simple avatar-style design, packed with anime, cartoon, and video game references. I had to check it out, and I was not disappointed. The gameplay is respons…

I think I found this game through one of the indie showcases last year and it lived up to the hype in terms of art and writing. Unfortunately the let down for me was the gameplay. “Duels” are just tennis games which didn’t really feel good and the mini games were randomly placed in game with some luck and some surprising you with timing based games that needed a go or two to nail. Ultimately the pacing was the deal breaker for me. I’d recommend if you’re after a chill night time game. But overall it felt closer to a waking sim than something that’s fun to play.

The description says it is a story-rich life sim, but don't let that distract you from it's true nature: a cyberpunk tennis RPG.

Absolutely amazing hidden gem I've had slapping around in my library. Don't sleep on this. Fantastic story and some enjoyable gameplay too with inventive minigames & some tennis challenge matches (with abilities) that worked out well.
