Fallen Force

Fallen Force is a pretty clever little roguelite because it takes a familiar arena survival setup and gives it one very important twist. Enemies do not actually die from normal damage. I have to knock them off the edge of the arena, which completely changes how I approach every fight. I really liked that because positioning suddenly matters just as much as dealing damage. The combat is built around mixing quick attacks with stronger charged attacks and special abilities. I can punch, shoot, burn or freeze enemies, but none of that matters unless I can use it to send them over the edge. I enjoyed looking for opportunities to knock enemies into each other or push them toward dangerous positions. It makes the battles feel more physical than a typical top down shooter. The build system also gives me plenty of room to experiment. I can choose different characters, weapons and abilities and then spend what I earn on upgrades during a run. I liked trying different combinations because the same basic arena can play very differently depending on what I bring into it. A short and sweet game about defeating an endless horde of enemies around a small arena. You select your character, weapon, ability, and arena of choice and continuously defeat enemies until you either fall off the arena or get tired of it. You can upgrade your stats, but it resets with every attempt, and every character has different/unique stats. At the end of the day, it's just a simple arena-shooter game to pick up and play.
