About Fearmonium

Fearmonium is a psychedelic metroidvania where suspense intertwines with humour. Beginning the game as an unpleasant memory, you must progress and become a true phobia by breaking through all boundaries to uncover the most hidden corners of Max's mind.
The whole game will unfold in the inner world of a boy who once saw several clowns at a fair. Their images secured by support of Depression are making their way into the depths of his consciousness through the nightmare, meeting Max’s memories on their way, anxieties and bright images. Will the clowns be able to supplant all objective fears of Max and take the place of his main horror?

- A huge map of Max’s consciousness, woven from abstract images and half-forgotten memories;
- Classic and hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation;
- Dynamic battles with combo attacks and a variety of unique abilities;
- Information about the process of the formation of new phobias and the nature of human consciousness;
- Memorable enemies, whose images reflect what Max saw in the real world;
- The answer to the question: does a phobia always cause irreparable harm, or can its presence change life for better?

The game is developed by one person - Slava Gris, inspired by music from Expecte Amour. Fearmonium is a mix of skills of self-taught artist who has received the master's degree of Psychology.

I'm a little torn. There are positives to Fearmonium - it's a genuine Metroidvania with plenty to discover and the backtracking is not too egregious. But there are so many problems that make it annoying and not fun to play. The gameplay, frankly, sucks. Nothing feels precise or smooth. You're disconnected, and too many of your actions need to play out before you can perform another one. Controls are janky. The graphics look nice in screenshots, but they're animated poorly and don't work as well while playing. The story is heavy-handed psychanalysis and there's way too much of it. I like the general message, but as a game it's just too fiddly to be fun.2 found this helpful

Okay metroidvania. Quite repetitive as you have to clear same rooms numerous times if you missed something.
This is a super solid semi hidden gem. Art is great, music is great. Gameplay is great.
A little over 20 hours for me to finish with a bit of back tracking to get most of the collectables. There was some infinite ammo that I just didn't care enough to get. I enjoyed it for the most part except I felt the bosses were a bit too difficult for me. I did finally beat all of them but I would have appreciated having an easier difficulty level to pick from. I always felt unpowered during boss fights. It would have been nice to upgrade the damage even further than what the max was. The one big issue for me was the lack of a block. It would have been nice to have some sort of blocking or dodging system. There are times when you are just going to get hit no matter what. This becomes insanely frustrating to not be able to block or dodge. Beyond the above issues, the combat is okay. Some of the upgrades and items are good. Some of them are just pointless. The game does a good job of handing out upgrades when needed. The map can be a bit confusing. I wish it would mark NPC characters and mark out barriers to pass. There is a bit of back tracking which tends to pad out the game time. The worse areas for me was the card slides. They can be rather picky and hard to navigate. …
