Hush

Hush is a neat little indie game that I immediately fell in love with the art style, but I sadly cannot really give any sort of proper review on this game because it is not that by any means. The game in its current state is a demo. No, I am not being overly harsh, but it does say “start demo” on the main screen, being a rather short 15 minutes. The opening animations do seem to imply some type of story, so without context we do not have anything to really follow. Movement is a little stiff but not difficult to navigate, and combat is not the best, as it is essentially moving back and forth and hitting once or twice before moving back again. That aside, it looks like the game would contain some small puzzles, I cannot say much besides the above, and it looks like there was a full game released based on the screenshots and videos, but looking at the announcements seems to imply that during the change of ownership something happened to revert back the game to an incomplete state. Being a dense block of granite that I am, I had no idea Hush was apparently just a demo until I started actually playing and noticed the obvious where it says “Play Demo” in the main menu. Huh. I have no idea how or where I got the game, but it would still be nice to know that it's not the real deal considering dev is charging 10€ for it. So other than being a candidate for a very short review with its 10-15 minutes of play time, what is Hush? Going by visuals alone you can tell game appears to be an action adventure of the most catch-all type, but I like how it incorporates things like light play aka you need to loosely stick to light sources or bad things will happen to you. This feeds into what brief snippet of the story you get where our titular girl is running away from someone or something and finds herself tumbling down a set of stairs leading to the basement in order to get away. Did I mention she goes there through drawn doors? Yeah, there are fantasy aspects here. There could be something way more foreboding at work, especially when you come across children locked into cells saying “they're safer” in there, but what you'll come across as enemies are weird animated barrel…

I tried to tell my name of this game and she kept yelling at me not to tell her to hush and now im grounded and get spanked every day :(

Abuses darkness to hide lack of assets. Nonsensical setting. Levels are empty corridors with a few barrels thrown about. There are lighted hotspots but everyone is in pitch darkness which you have no choice but to cross into which depletes your health. The goal is go from hotspot to hotspot until you finally manage to complete the keyhunt to open the level's door. Combat is against foes that dont make sense (barrel monsters?), the combat feel very floaty and not kinetic at all.

Looks nice. Keyboard controls do not work properly since a key to hit is missing. 360 controller works fine. It takes way too long between a roll and a hit. And between a hit and a roll. Should be more fluid. Nice graphics, ok soundtrack. As for now the game is not recommendable.
