About Fish and Groove

In Fish and Groove you play as a cat that goes fishing. To catch the fishes he enchants them by playing his banjo. Hit the numerical buttons on the keyboard following the beat to score (and to collect his diner).

ORIGINAL CONCEPT

A fishing game or a rhythm game? Why not both?

RETRO VISUALS

Pixel art animations and environments give the game an unique feel for this genre.

BEAUTIFUL SONGS

Amazing songs composed by Peritune. All inspired by classic Japanese melodies with instruments like the Shamisen.

✦ AI summary

Players praise the game's cute art style, affordable price, and sweet music, but are frustrated by significant technical issues that make it barely playable. Common complaints include songs looping endlessly without gameplay after completion (forcing a full restart), inability to pause during songs, rhythm inputs not syncing properly with the music, and missing quality-of-life features like key remapping and volume persistence. While the core concept is appealing, these bugs and limitations undermine the relaxing experience players were seeking.

I wanted to play a simple and chill rhythm game to pass the time and thought this looked really cute and relaxing. However, there are many flaws with this game. I can't recommend it. I was unable to pause the game during the songs. The rhythm input does not follow the song at all. And after a song is completed the cat is stuck on the ending animation and does not proceed to the next stage. This game is affordable, the art is cute, but I don't think it's worth the time to play it as it is barely functional.

Cute, but bad. Game loads a song and then when the song is over, and the notes stop rolling in... it repeats the song, without notes. And it loops. Forever. Can't hit anything to cancel either, no menu when hitting escape or whatevs to exit or restart the song or nothing. Have to force close the game. This is unacceptable even for the low price it goes for and needs to be fixed. Until it has, this review will stay negative.

I really like this game conceptually, thought I will say the $.99 pricing makes sense. For a rhythm game, the key bindings are quite different, using QWER, but I think that's fine. The music is sweet, so is the art style. The button patterns are decent, they're on beat, but nothing difficult even on the harder options. The worst part of the game is that once you finish a song, it will repeat the same song without any gameplay, though you can continue missing the keys are lose points. You have to restart the game to choose a new song. And my volume adjustments don't save so then I have to readjust it everytime I reopen the game. Overall, I still really like the thought of this game. It's very cute, and I would love to see a more fleshed out game that maybe brings more to the fishing aspect of the game aside from the cues just being fish shaped.

Ok so this game is very cheap and the art is cute! The music is nice as well. The gameplay is your standard 4k rhythm game, and it's not very hard in my opinion (though I have an unhealthy obsession with the genre so you may find it more challenging if you are not experienced with rhythm games. The charting isn't really bad, it's just simple. Issues I have with it are no option to remap keys, the default isn't my preferred layout at all (game has you use QWER or 1234, so theres no hand spacing if you want to use both hands). Also got a glitch where the music just keeps playing and nothing on the screen changes, this only happened when I got a full combo on a song so idk if it's an issue with that? or just random. Also idk if I just can't find it, but I can't find a way to pause the song or exit out of the song list and go back to the main menu. Overall, I think this game is cute and its cheap so its worth the cost, just be aware that its just a cute little relaxing game and not one of your hardcore rhythm games. I think there's potential if the bugs are fixed and some higher difficulties are added tho! Also the font is bad and hard to read please change the font.
