About Flat Kingdom Paper's Cut Edition

A STORY ABOUT DIMENSIONS, SHAPES AND JEWELS

According to the Flat Kingdom’s legends, the world was once filled with malice and chaos because the 3D realm dominated all. But one day, a wise sorcerer created six Magical Jewels that kept the effects of the third dimension at bay, granting peace and prosperity to the beautiful 2D world.

However, one day an evil masked thief named Hex stole one of those Jewels and kidnapped the princess. This disrupted the balance and made the chaos return.

The king of Flat Kingdom knew there was only one being able to save their land: Flat, the little shapeshifting hero! With his unique abilities, he’s not only able to change his shape, but is also the only one in the kingdom capable of withstanding the 3D chaos.

Now the time has come. Flat must use his incredible powers to save the world and restore the Flat Kingdom to its former glory. Will he be able to stop Hex before it’s too late?

GAMEPLAY

Flat Kingdom is filled with fun platforming action, puzzles and some Metroidvania elements. It also features a unique combat system! Instead of directly attacking your foes, you’ll have to touch them while transformed in the correct shape to beat them! Kinda like a rock-paper-scissor game.

Every shape in Flat Kingdom beats the opposite, so sharp triangles can defeat the soft circles, heavy squares beat the fragile triangles and squishy circles can triumph over the slow squares. Both enemies and puzzles can be beaten using the correct shape and strategy, so you'll have to observe them and come up with the best solution.

You can also learn new abilities along the way that will help you solve even more puzzles, beat enemies faster and reach new areas that were inaccessible to you before!

FEATURES

  • Jump into a beautiful papercraft world, filled with details and references to classic games.

  • Uncover all of the game’s secrets! There are side quests, upgrades and all kinds of surprises.
  • Learn all about the kingdom’s lore and history by finding hidden scrolls.

it's a kid's game with gimmick controls and unfulfilled ideas. not worth it.

While it's been far too long since I last played Flat Kingdom for me to be able to say anything about the quality of the gameplay, that's because the game has some kind of bug that means it can't be run anymore, and so I have to disrecommend it. edit: the specific bug that prevents the game does have a fix, but right before you'd beat the second zone it turns out there's yet another game breaking glitch that leaves you unable to progress and complete the level, and even if that glitch does have some way of solving it, at the point where you're unable to play through the game unless you find some obscure fix for two or more bugs, a game really should not be bought and probably shouldn't even be on the market.

This is going to be a complicated review and honestly not very flattering of the game. So to start I will begin with the games high points, and dredge on about the many lows. This game is charming. Its a very cool concept and I think the Rock, Paper, Scissors aspect of your character and how it intertwines into combat is interesting. Its a platformer through and through and the way the theme and art can take different forms through the game was something I found very refreshing. Now the bad, and what I have to say is bad. I dont want to be too harsh but I need to be. So, in no particular order, here are my faults with this game. Lets begin with the music, very repetitive and samey throughout. While I found myself humming along to the music up until the end, you cant deny it doesent have a lot of depth or variety. Big complaint up next is the games insistence on using pixel perfect jumps to progress. I walk into an area, spend an hour trying to find a different route and trying different things (checkpoint starting me before a bunch of annoying obstacles), and I literally gave up. I quit the game and walked away. Then I came back, then I quit again. I might have done that one mo…

Cute 2d platformer with a lot of personality. Love the artwork in this game. Gameplay is fairly simple, and although a few of the controls are clunky, its still fairly easy to pick up. The story is pretty short and I'd hope to see a game similar to this with more depth from the publisher in the future.

Feels like a very well done student game. Clearly a lot of effort has gone into it, the game has some neat ideas, some fun boss mechanics but overall it just falls a little flat. Not going to be too critical to the game, as the seeing as the developers have already fallen off the edge of the world, but it is a very bland, tedious game and really isn't worth your time.
