About Football Legend

Take over a professional American football team, in this single-player football management simulator. As both general manager and head coach, build a football dynasty that will last for decades to come. Trade, draft, sign free agents, and coach your way into the hall of fame! Do you have what it takes to become a football legend?

A Football Sandbox

Football Legend drops you into a realistically modeled football universe. In this universe, you are head coach and general manager of a football team. You have total control over roster, personnel, and play calling duties. Compete with the other AI coaches and try to become the greatest of all time.

Build Your Roster

Acquire a talented roster, with the very same methods the pros use:

  • Draft future stars in a pro-style, seven round draft
  • Negotiate contracts with players using an extensive real-world contract system
  • Craft trades that can include multiple players and/or draft picks
  • Deal with the constant constraint of staying under the salary cap
  • Apply a franchise tag to a player, to force keeping a player for one more year

Craft Your On-Field Strategy

You have absolute control your on-field strategy. Take an unprecedented level of control over your team, with tools such as:

  • A full-blown, custom play creation editor. Design the right plays to leverage your strengths, and hide your weaknesses.
  • A custom game plan editor. Set up exactly which plays you want to run, for every situation.
  • A personnel package designer. Put your players into exactly the role they are suited for.
  • A depth chart editor. Set your starters, and decide who your backups and replacements will be.

A Detailed Football Experience

Football Legend strives to realistically model what it is like to be a part of a professional football league, including features such as:

  • A yearly all star game. See if any of your players were voted in by the fans
  • Realistic player retirements. Some players may retire early due to a severe injury, while some players may have a prime that extends well into their late 30's.
  • Yearly hall of fame inductees
  • Realistic player rating progression system. Some players will never develop. Some will have a quick peak and rapidly decline. Some will have long primes that last a decade.

A Deep Ocean of Stats

If stats are your thing, then you have found the right game! Football Legend features extensive stat-tracking for players, teams, and coaches. There is never a shortage of statistics at your fingertips. You have instant access to:

  • Season and career stats for any player, current or retired
  • Team stats
  • League leaders
  • Box scores for any game, past or present
  • All-time stat leaderboards, for players and coaches

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's solid foundation as a football manager simulator with comprehensive features like draft systems, free agency, and playoff structures, with some optimistic that it could become a top-tier sports management game. However, the game suffers from significant polish issues, unclear mechanics, persistent bugs like coaches being fired without reason, UI problems that make progression confusing, and what some view as neglectful developer support despite frequent patches, leading some to feel the game is too unfinished for its current Steam release.

After playing through 10+ seasons (with many more to come), I can tell I'm enjoying this game a lot. While it's not perfect, it still worth it's price already, and it has a solid potential to become one of the best Football Manager games ever. The game has some minor bugs (nothing game breaking), but the developer keeps working on fixing them as soon as possible (the game received a small patch almost everyday since release). Pros: - Pro style football (2 conferences, 8 divisions, 32 teams) with 18 week (17 games) regular season, 14 teams playoffs (with conference championships and league championship), off-season (re-signing period, free agency, draft, training camp). - Complete control over your team (Trades, Free Agency, Draft, Offensive/Defensive/Special Teams Coordinators, Player Coaches (from QB coach to DB Coach), Gameplan, Depth Chart, Signings, Contract Negotiations, Franchise Tag), with the option to let the game automatically handle the ones you don't want to, or even everything. - Realistic draft logic and player/coach contracts. - Statistics and records, but a lot of them: Player and team, game/season/all-time stats and records, Hall Of Fame, Yearly awards (Player an…

Developer has no respect for the players time. Game has a clear bug that results in coaches getting fired for no reason, they know of this bug and can't be bothered to fix it.

It's ... okay. I'm going to call it a very good start after a half an hour. It's a general manager simulator - you can't coach any games, I can't even tell if you can watch the games play out live. Everything you would want for a GM simulator is there. There's a distinct lack of polish at the moment, and not with the GUI - the GUI is fine, it's just difficult to tell what decisions you have to make when, such as when to cut your roster down to 53 players, or if your coaches did that for you, or how generating a game plan works when you don't have a lot of information to generate a game plan off of. I guess that's best left to your coaches for now. The good news is all the bones are there, so this has a chance to be one of the better American football sims out there if the developer keeps at it, but probably best bought on sale at the moment.

When I first got this game, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. It is currently still pretty unpolished, and not quite at the level of the FOF series.... but looking at the road map posted and the work put into the game, I think it has a pretty good shot of becoming the OOTP-esque football game I've been waiting for. Only time will tell, but right now, this game is looking pretty good for the future.

***Don't waste your time. Game is unfinished during first season. Blank pages on game statistics page and you must constantly click and reclick to just sim first season. A real mess. This game should not even be allowed on Steam. Too bad because it would have been a good game if the Developers had just finished it. Pathetic.
