Developed and published by HiFight, FOOTSIES Rollback Edition is a fighting game that proves depth does not always require complexity. Instead of overwhelming players with massive move lists, elaborate combos, and dozens of mechanics, it concentrates on the pure fundamentals of competitive fighting games. Every match revolves around spacing, movement, timing, and reading an opponent's intentions, creating a tense battle of strategy where every action carries meaningful consequences. This streamlined philosophy makes the game approachable for newcomers while remaining remarkably satisfying for experienced fighting game enthusiasts who appreciate mastering the essentials. Unlike most fighting games where admittedly whether I'm playing against a human or the CPU, I tend to default to "What if I just dash in as close as possible and hit buttons?" or if that doesn't work "What if I just jump in and hit buttons?" or if that doesn't work "RANDOM SHORYUKEN!" this one's mechanics force me to, like, actually have to stop and try to play the game well if I want to win, and it's kind of a novel concept in my mind that winning involve actually knowing what you're doing, and I don't think ever before this have I actually gone out of my way to look for my opponent's normals so I can whiff punish them, say. Honestly, if I played this game for an extended period, it would probably be good for me. The online community seems to be gone at this point, and I wasn't able to get a game against anybody, but I feel even just the stuff against the CPU is probably worth playing for its own sake. Maybe it's just my complete lack of any skill at footsies in fighting games, and for all I know maybe someone actually good at this would say "Oh, no, the CPU is worthless", but I feel even playing against the CPU requires me to make a genuine effort to not play dumb in orde…3 found this helpful
