Forgotten Blood

The amount of hating on this game is insane. This is a really fun game if you are fine with figuring almost everything out yourself with no hand holding. I do think the stamina regen sucks and you should probably just not consume stamina outside of combat. There are also a few bugs, I went into a cave and got softlocked which sucks. Hoping I am able to finish the game sometime in the future if this gets fixed. Other than those issues its a really solid game.

During the early 90s, I had a hand-me-down C64. The C64 had one of the most absurdly vast libraries out there for the home micros. Sometimes, I would get a multiplack cassette that would have 4 to 8 games on it. Most of these games were given by family members who had no interest in them any more. They usually featured an iconic title as the main pull, like the original Dizzy, and then there was one interesting other title, and then some weird, incoherent nonsense that you loaded once, tried to play it for about 30 minutes and then stopped because you had little clue as to what was going on. They seldom even had the presentation worth noting as they rarely had music, just had the character’s footsteps and a jumping sound, and the graphics were usually jumbled nonsense. Forgotten Blood feels like that kind of incoherent game you got at the end of the multipack. Don’t get me wrong, the appeal of a lot of these seemingly ultra hard, old school first person RPGs that has been usually based on how obtuse and confusing they are. Some are almost entirely centered on how absurd their logic is where some events only happen once in a blue moon, but at their core there is a good game to rid…

I've played the game extensively and finished the story a few times (yes, it has multiple endings). The game definitely has some problems, such as the stamina consumption and the inventory management, which is clunky and far more complicated than it needs to be. Still, the core idea is interesting. The feeling of getting lost, the claustrophobic environments, and the lack of clear direction are deliberate design decisions (which some people may like and others may not, but that's ultimately a matter of personal preference). Considering it's the work of a single developer, I think it's a nice achievement. It may not be for everyone, but it can be a rewarding experience for those who can look past the clunky controls.

While I am giving a positive score to this game because I'm really enjoying it, I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. IMO it delivered exactly what was promised. An indie "Kings Field like" If you love Kings Field (I do) then you will enjoy the game. It is rough and needs work so hopefully the dev is still making improvements but I am glad I bought it and had a great time so far with it. I did encounter a soft lock in an area where I needed to light a candle and it wouldn't work. Had to return to crystal which is an option in the ESC menus, not in game, so a bit strange to find. All that said I will go back to playing it soon and I do not regret the purchase at all.

stay clear of this game. it looks interesting and reminds me of kingsfield, but the whole gameplay is so extremly poor. nothing is explained (and i realy mean noting) so you do not know what most of your items do. inventory managment is tideous for no real reason: you have to open your inventory to pick a item up and you have to manualy drag it from loot to a free space or a stack with the same items (sometimes the items dont stack fo no reason at all) and youll have to do this for every fking item you find. and by god you do not look at the item in the right angle to pick it up. sometimes items just straight up disapear out of the inventory screen and are lost forever. then selecting an item in the inventory is mapped to 2 buttons: pick up and put back. like wtf why have it on 2 SEPERATE buttons. turn speed is also abysal on controler while on keyboard you can zoom around. combat is extremly dull (even duller than in games which are 30years old). enemys hardly react to your swings and its basically a "who has more hp/stamina whacking" eachtime. the world seems interesting, but areas seem to be very small and paths usually arent realy clear. no idea if lvl ups are a thing since i…

disclaimer: played only for a short while, couldnt finish it cons: game really turned me off from the get go, I only played it a short while but LOTS of glitches, from switches not working, to enemy and player attack animations whiffing for no reason, to enemy AI just standing still and doing nothing dogwater inventory management, like truly abysmal the map design is comically bad. The main path is ambiguous which is fine, but I found myself at times glitching my way up walls to find routes and weighing wether or not I was playing the game the right way or if Id break sequence accidentally, which really took me out of the atmosphere all this just quickly made me feel like this was an undercooked product that was shipped to "full release" (if you can call it that) just to make some money or buzz to recoup the time put into it, maybe they intend to work on it more? Maybe not? but it's not worth any amount of money currently to me. pros: cool atmosphere
