Gardener Plant Creator is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. Instead of being a game, Gardener Plant Creator is a basic tech demo, it's a small subset of functionality for what's supposed to go into a full game called "Gardener". Basically you can "create" "procedurally generated" plants... ugh, what a terrible idea. Obviously Procgen must never be used as a substitute for content as the developer of this application is trying to do... and also besides the point. This useless software app is positioned on Steam as a game for one reason only: To try and generate interest and potential sales for the "Gardener" game that the developer is advertising here. And that's not okay, either. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position…

This is sorta the Spore Flora Editor we were promised 20 years ago, in an alternate reality where the Science camp won with the Cuteness camp. The UI is clearly ripped from Spore but there's no drag-and-drop and other core Spore controls, only sliders and radio toggles. This means you don't have the same freedom and can't quite nail the alien aesthetic of Spore beyond painting the plant purple and giving it an odd bark shape, but in turn any plant looks good (real-life plants are kinda procgenned after all) and the game lets you watch the plant's entire lifecycle. Makes sense as this is actually a tie-in to a gardening game.

Really planted the seed with this one. The rather robust amount of customization you can do with these plants is impressive and the workshop support is a nice little touch.
