Gatekeeper has a competent foundation as a roguelike but suffers from repetitive gameplay and uninspired ability design that grows stale quickly, with some players also frustrated by unclear enemy patterns and lack of progression incentive. While a few players found enjoyment in the top-down perspective and general experience, most reviews suggest the game feels incomplete and loses appeal after short play sessions.
While there is a sketch of a very solid game here, it's simply not complete. The main game loop is repetitive and the abilities are boring.1 found this helpful

I didn't even go past the first level it's so bad. There's no incentive to killing mobs and to not mention they never stop coming, so it gets pretty annoying when you're going around the map trying to find something. Also, a lot of times you don't even know what's hitting you.
I enjoyed my time with it, I don't usually play these kind of games (like Risk of Rain, etc) so I don't know how it compares to games in the genre, but I did like the top-down more than what ROR is which is why I haven't played it honestly.
