When the sun got tired of the humans it decided to hide and never rise again…
The darkness awoke the dead from their graves. A decade after the sun retreated and twilight engulfed the world, an oppressive leader has made being a zombie against the law, their very existence is illegal. They are forced to hide in the forest, away from dangerous zombie hunters. At night when the hunters retreat into their homes, the cold sunless world becomes calm and quiet. A zombie kid called Gloomy wanders alone, out of sight… This zombie is different. Truth is, he doesn’t feel too comfortable around others of his kind. Gloomy is not like other zombies. He has something inside him that we can’t see or understand.
But Nature knows he’s special.
Unexpected love, a light in the dark...
By unlikely chance, or by the mysterious powers of nature, a human girl and a zombie boy fall in love. Nena is no ordinary girl. Born in the cold darkness and knowing no other way of life, she is the niece of the harsh leader of humankind. But Gloomy and Nena care not, and immediately form an irreversible bond, powerful enough to bring brightness again to their obscure town. Can their atypical love survive in a world where the living and the dead cannot peacefully coexist?

Gloomy Eyes VR, developed by 3DAR and Atlas V and published by ARTE France, is a narrative-driven virtual reality experience that leans heavily into atmosphere, emotion, and visual artistry rather than traditional gameplay mechanics. Framed as a dark fairy tale, it transports players into a world where the sun has disappeared, plunging humanity into endless night and awakening the dead. Within this perpetual twilight, society fractures under fear and superstition, and zombies—once human—are hunted and forced into hiding. Against this bleak backdrop, the story follows Gloomy, a gentle and introspective young zombie, and Nena, a human girl raised in darkness, whose unlikely bond becomes the emotional core of the experience. Rather than functioning as a conventional VR game with complex mechanics or player-driven problem solving, Gloomy Eyes presents itself more as an interactive animated film. Boring and short. Just skip it.
VR is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing for storytelling Just wish it was a little longer I'd watch a whole ass movie in this style
A lovely short Tim Burton-esk VR story with beautiful graphics, animation, sound, and music. To be honest, I was just amazed how a VR experience like this could be on par with a 3D (stop) animation movie in theaters but in VR! One thing though, at this time of writing, make sure you stand in your room instead of sitting in your couch for the best VR experience. I didn't mind myself, because that's how I like to do VR. But just so you know.
A really cute little vr story. Graphics, Sound and Story are all wonderful I dont know how they come up with these ideas! There is no interaction as such but that is totally fine. You stand in the middle whilst it all happens around you so you'll probably want to stand up or get a swivel chair. This one is quite dark so on my quest 3 the blacks are very grey and the resolution isnt high enough to full appreciate the amazing level of detail but still highly recommended none the less. On micro 4k oled headset this will look jaw dropping im sure. I'll be back to try it when i get one!
Truly beautiful. A whole experience around your VR room with a Tim Burton style sad story. What could I wish more for?
