I tried to get into this a couple times and just couldn't wring any joy out of the experience. The auto-battle experience makes it very clear how much time is spent just kind of sitting and waiting for things to happen. Then you go back to the holy site, click the same couple things a few times.. and back to auto battle. I couldn't find any way to feel connected or invested to what was happening, because it was almost completely happening without me.
Tactical game, you choose the traditions and tenets of your religion, those give you economical or combat boni. You choose which stats get stronger through your rituals, so you can win against other religions either by force or by convincing (though both "look" like you hit them over the head) in a stand-off. There are many different classes you can choose for your disciples. The fight is automated and you influence it only in the preparation (short-term buffs) and choosing your fighters, rituals, tenets, etc. I do not understand why some people claim you "don't do anything" in the game, that is not true. Time only passes when you do things, make decisions, etc. It's just not a hack and slash or an x-com fight style. Everything is tactical, very few things involve luck. Some say the stats are presented poorly, maybe that are old reviews but I found everything I wanted to know pretty easily. The only thing I would wish for is one screen with (defense-)stats of ALL your disciples on one page. But with the frequent updates maybe that will be added, too. My first playthrough took almost 20 hours but there where quite a few things to learn Starting now on the 2nd religion type. Ther…

Pleasantly surprised by this game, I had read some disappointing reviews but I find myself hooked. I think the main issue is when people think this will be a god game, as in god gameplay like the good ole black and white or something similar, whereas this is really just a god *themed* game, I would describe it as more of a light base building, mid stat raising and strategy game. I enjoy the slight variations is style and strategy you can choose throughout each playthrough (my first was at medium difficulty as a peaceful conversion god, and my second that I am currently in is a physical violence war god). It's enjoyable game that isn't difficult to learn but is engaging enough to keep me distracted from real life (as is my goal with game playing).
