I tried to get into this a couple times and just couldn't wring any joy out of the experience. The auto-battle experience makes it very clear how much time is spent just kind of sitting and waiting for things to happen. Then you go back to the holy site, click the same couple things a few times.. and back to auto battle. I couldn't find any way to feel connected or invested to what was happening, because it was almost completely happening without me.

I love Abbey Games, first and foremost. I did steer clear of this game for a very long time, however. Got it for a good enough price on sale to finally try it out ($27 base is insanity), and see how they "went wrong". At times, the game is surely dull and unsatisfying. A handful of ideas thrown around, with minimal depth injected into them. Yet, there still exists such a magic in their game design that can be found even in what may be considered their worst. It's got a lot of DNA from multiple other games as well, though there is no inclusion substantial enough to shine and carry the game. As a side note, I did find it amusing how it resembles Umamusume: Pretty Derby, released years before. I wish I had more to say, considering my love for the team's other games. If you also like this dev team, I can recommend checking this one out on a deep discount. You still find those satisfying strategy-game diamonds in the rough. That being said, I feel way happier supporting Reus 2 through DLCs than I did buying this game.

Not at all what I was expecting it to be. It's a funky team-building autobattler with very light town building (build/upgrade basic buildings to tweak minor stats and rewards). It plays a lot like a gladiator training game except it's religious 'fighters'. Not Abbey's finest work, but I had a lot of fun with it. It's still got some rough edges and a single playthrough is too long (I feel like it should be three islands, but I understand they wanted to really let you get a sense of progression). It seems like they released it a bit too soon due to financials and had to close shop before it really got to its peak. It's a shame you can see there's more potential there, but it's still a 7/10 for me. Not as good as Renowned Explorers, but better than Reus.

Went just long enough without the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficulty spike that I can't get a refund.

I really like this game and go back to it for a few hours every once in a blue moon. Definitely not going everyone's cup of tea as you really don't have a lot of direct options to work with and you won't have a lot of direct control of the ongoings. If you don't like more idle games, you will find it very boring, but if you enjoy games where you make small decisions and see how they pan out over time? Definitely fun. Get it on sale though, it's more a $15 game imo.
