Gold Miner:Classic Edition

Gold Miner: Classic Edition is a game I played from my childhood which still holds up semi well today. It was fun to play this game for a bit because I remember I had so much fun previously. It has 2 player support as well which makes it better.

Gold Miner is one of those games that many people remember fondly, and I completely understand why. It was a fantastic browser game back in 2003, and replaying it definitely brought back some nostalgic memories. That said, I don't think nostalgia alone should determine whether a modern Steam release is worth recommending. The gameplay is still simple and easy to understand, but after a short while it started feeling repetitive. The Steam version adds a new game mode and a few small extra things, but overall it's still essentially the same game many of us played for free years ago. Even the menus and general presentation feel a bit rough. If you're buying this purely to relive your childhood, you'll probably have a good time for an hour or so, just like I did. But if you've never played Gold Miner before, I don't think it holds up particularly well compared to what's available today, especially at its current price. I respect what Gold Miner meant to gaming history, but this Steam release feels like it's relying more on nostalgia than offering enough value as a modern release.

I used to LOVE playing this on various flash websites back in the day. (I'm only 32, I shouldn't be saying back in the day, g'damnit internet!) It's mega easy to play, the golden nuggets cereal mascot(They actually look nothing alike, now that I look at them, funny how our brains remember things completely wrong) kneels by a winch that swings back and fore, you press down when it's pointing at something you want, he grabs it. Heavy things winch in slower. Get money, buy things that make runs easier for the next level. Play again. With the death of flash browser games, many people probably very rightly assumed they wouldn't see half of them ever again. Thankfully this one has been added to steam, to be preserved, at least until steam dies.... Hopefully that won't happen any time soon. It's also mega easy to get all the achievements on this game, so if like me you love getting achievements, then at least buy this for that. For 3 achievements, you just have to open the game in 1 player and 2 player. You don't even need a second player. I have serious nostalgia for this game, but I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a casual arcade experience. It is very challenging yet rewarding.
