"Grapple Gear" is a student project from Neumont in Salt Lake City, Utah. This year the students made a simple low poly wireframe/cel shaded (hard to tell which look they were going for) speedrunner with a grapple mechanic. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen on Steam, neither is it the best. What do you do in the game? 3D platforming with a grapple swing mechanism. As fast as you can. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Instead of relying on combat, story-driven progression, or exploration-heavy gameplay, the experience focuses purely on traversal through increasingly demanding obstacle courses using a grappling hook and advanced momentum mechanics. The game feels like a love letter to speedrunning culture, constantly encouraging players to improve their movement efficiency and discover faster ways through every stage. At the center of the experience is the grappling hook system, which serves as the foundation for nearly every action in the game. Players swing across massive gaps, launch themselves through the air, and chain together grapples to maintain speed through complex environments. The movement system feels intentionally fast and somewhat chaotic, especially during the opening stages where controlling momentum can seem overwhelming. Early attempts often involve overshooting jumps, crashing into walls, or losing control during swings, but this learning curve becomes part of the game’s appeal. its good but is vey much sill being developed

Small silly little game, but actually fun when putting a bit of time to learn the mechanics. Its buggy nature leads to some really interesting run experimenting.
