About Gratuitous Space Battles 2
Have you ever wanted to be admiral of a huge, sprawling space battle-fleet of your own design? Ever wanted to design a fleet of battle-cruisers so powerful they can rip all who oppose them into space-dust? Ever wanted to build a battleship with purple rotating radars and 64 engines? Well we have good news for you...
Gratuitous Space Battles is back! and it's approximately 50,000 times more gratuitous than before. A completely new ground-up rebuilding of the custom 'Gratuitous Engine' gives the game a completely new look, with beam-lasers 10x as 'beamy' as explosions 10x more gratuitous.
You now have complete control over the appearance of your ships, and can build them from a base hull and a bunch of adjustable visual components so you have control of both the composition AND the looks of your deadly starships. GSB2 retains the core gameplay of the original. This is NOT a standard RTS game, but a management/simulation game about building space fleets and giving them orders. You aren't the dumb schmuck who actually flies into battle and gets lazered. Leave that to those patriotic and keen young dudes from the outer-colonies. Nope, your job is as supreme commander in chief. Sit back at fleet HQ and watch the fireworks as you reduce the enemy to space-dust.
Using it's amazingly asynchronous multiplayer online 'challenge' system, GSB2 lets you put together a whole fleet and upload it, orders, formations and custom ship designs in one, up to a server where fellow GSB2 players can download it and pit their own fleets against it in glorious combat.

Some of the new features in GSB2:
- Totally re-coded graphics engine for uber-explodiness
- Every ship in the game is built from a wide range of components that mean no challenge will have identical looking enemies. Huge scope for ship design.
- Super-clever lighting system and mega-parallax system makes for a more 3D, cinematic-looking experience, and more gratuitous effects.
- Built-in multi-monitor support. Runs fine (and looks lovely) at 5120 res and beyond.
- New classes of ship, introducing the Dreadnought, the destroyer and the gunship...
- Carrier modules now bring fighters into battle, and refuel them mid-battle. Knock out a carrier to upset those pesky fighter pilots.
- Steam achievements & trading cards at last!
- Formations now survive individual members being lost.
- New support beams allow ships to act as tugs, or mobile target-boost assistance vessels.
- Support for new weapons combinations such as radioactive plasma torpedoes.
- Built in 30 FPS mode for smooth video-capture for all you lets-play fans.
- unashamedly gratuitous GUI.

Gratuitous Space Battles 2 is a refreshing take on the science fiction strategy genre that deliberately moves away from the traditional real-time strategy formula. Developed and published by Positech Games, it challenges players to think like fleet architects rather than battlefield commanders. Instead of emphasizing rapid unit control and resource gathering, the game focuses on careful preparation, intelligent ship design, and tactical planning before combat even begins. Every battle becomes a test of engineering decisions and strategic foresight, rewarding players who can anticipate enemy behavior and construct fleets capable of carrying out their plans without constant intervention. This unique philosophy gives the game a distinctive identity that stands apart from more conventional space warfare titles. The most impressive aspect of the experience is its comprehensive fleet customization system. Players can construct warships from a wide selection of hulls and equip them with countless combinations of weapons, armor, engines, shields, sensors, and specialized support modules. Beyond mechanical upgrades, ships can also be visually customized, allowing every fleet to develop its…
For its originale release price and chrasing so much it probably wasent worth it. But for the new reduced price, providing you dont alt-tab, or use any of the online fonctions you should be fine even with some rare and rdm game closing! When the game close, the fleet setup is usually saved so you start back right where you were. Online fonctionality arent there anymore so there is rdm battle (someone or you put a fleet and you put your other fleet and see who wins), there is a persistend fleet mode where when a ship dies it doesn come back (doesnt last very long) and there is the (main) mode, with maybe 10 levels each with 3 level of difficulty (normal, hard, very hard) so a total of around 30 battles to try to win with multiple difficulty level. You unlock parts, ships, weapons, etc. So for the price it ok if you know what you are in for, also graphics are gool and sounds are great. There are a lot of weapons and available strategies with many ship types.
Has crashed 4 times on me so far, always when selecting to start X random battle. Thankfully it auto saves your fleet deployment so it is only a pretty quick restart of the game but wtf is this absurd instability under the hood? The battles are pleasant enough but is very limited in tech/ships/races to unlock. Feels more like a half baked demo.
Such a great idea for a game, I got this hoping to see a few things improved from the first version. Unfortunately, GSB2 has crashed multiple times in the first hour and has graphical problems. I was really hoping to see increase "zoom-out" distance, so you could see the whole battlefield. 3D would have been amazing, but not necessary. Also, the system for selecting modules doesnt let you sort, and I had to make an excel spreadsheet, manually entering all the data, just so that i could clearly see the differences between module. Once I had my spreadsheet i was able to clearly see that there are still 3 classes of ship (fighter and gunships are the same class), (frigates and destroyers are the same class), (dreadnoughts and cruisers are the same class). i still like the game, i just wish they focused more on gameplay and user experience more. it is what it is
This is how you do a proper STRATEGY! (game) While menu sucks, UI sucks, tutorial sucks completely(!), strategic part is a mastery!
