Grotesque Beauty - A Horror Visual Novel was pretty much what I expected. I wanted to play a game that was somewhat scary since it is Halloween but not much of a time investment. It took a little over an hour for me to go through and I ended up getting ending 19. There are 30 endings total. From a guide I seen there are 3 key save points you can make and reload them and change a some dialogue choices to get the endings you missed. I may check a few on youtube however I do not plan on replaying it. The story was inspired by Junji Ito. I thought it was intriguing and it kept me wanting more without getting bored. The still frame pictures are basic and nothing too artistically great but they had charm and help set the tone of the game. There are also some parts with moving animations. I thought the sounds were fine. I did notice where the ambient background noise would very briefly cut out early in my play through, I'm not sure if this was intentional or not. Firstly, I really did enjoy this horror VN, especially since it had so many different endings. The art was good and it worked really well for the story. The sounds were also good with boosting up the suspense as well. The story was pretty interesting and it kept me hooked. I did notice some typos and odd phrasing, which for a VN, the writing is a big thing for me. For the most part, the typos were small enough that the context is still understood (just a few examples: "een" instead of "even", "we're" instead of "were", "feeling concussion", etc). Some of the phrasing did come across as a tad bit odd to me personally, but it wasn't grammatically correct. Honestly, the game could use a bit more proofreading, but really, the writing in general was good and the mistakes weren't overly obvious or confusing to deter the enjoyment of the game. I didn't experience any major bugs beyond a hiccup with one of my save files, I was able to load it up but it loaded up in the screen right before where I actually saved, and the game wouldn't let me progress at all. Also, sometimes alt+enter didn't change screen mode properly (I would either have to load a save or go back to the title for the game…

A pretty decent visual novel. I only did two of the endings because I honestly couldn't care less about trying to get all 30 of the endings as I am not really that type of person. The art style is very cool and very different. My only big gripe is that there are a lot moments where the characters just seem kind of stupid, and as a way of self inserting, it makes me feel as tho the story is treating me as stupid. Like, if you choose to go upstairs and investigate the noise, you find the woman from the painting in the parents bedroom. It takes the characters like five or more minutes to realize that it's the woman from the painting when I, the reader, knew it as soon as I saw the woman. I don't know how the character did not immiadetly know this other than because they're not written to. Just one example. One of my small gripes is that the game is not scary at all. The only single time I jumped a little is because, another smaller gripe, is that you can't adjust the game volume, so like one loud noise made me jump once because sudden loud noise. With many different endings and how your choices effect them, this game can be very mild during a play or take you on a wild ride. Would recommend.

I enjoyed the visuals and overall aesthetics of this game. It was pretty cool to see the art and the animations. I noticed some pretty minor grammatical errors but like I said, they're all so minor that it doesn't take away from your understanding or general experience. Pretty neat game!!

Love this little game. I got 4.5 hours out of it, not bad for the price at all
