Guildmaster: Gratuitous Subtitle is an irreverent fantasy adventure, juxtaposing humourous dialogue with challenging tactical combat in a world of elemental magic and sneaky goblins.
As the Guildmaster you will command an ever changing party of four heroes into turn-based tactical combat. Assemble a party from a growing guild of heroes, each with a unique set of skills. Equip them from an arsenal of hundreds of weapons, each providing a different set of attacks to the wielder. Take on quests in dungeons, caves, forests and villages. To prevail you will need to master the skills of your heroes, position them effectively, and use their abilities in tandem to overwhelm the enemy forces. The Guildmaster's support spells can make the difference in a battle. Use them wisely!

Looks don't lie, my expectations were well met: mission-based retro-like 2D TBS. AI-controlled enemies mostly do their job right. Plays fine on Linux.4 found this helpful
The game is exactly as described - a turn based tactical combat game in a fantasy setting. I enjoyed the graphical aesthetics of the game, only minor criticism was that it was hard to make out entrances/exits of rooms at times. Music and sound effects were on point. One of the song tracks reminded me of Mount and Blade actually, no bad thing. The combat style is very much in the X-Com vein of kill-all-enemies, but with a much more linear level design rather than the procedurally created levels that you would see in X-Com. You'll quickly learn what the optimal strategies are to use to dispatch certain enemies. Picking the right characters/equipment becomes very important to completing each individual mission. The combat is a little more simplistic than something like X-Com, but still enjoyable and satisfying. If you are used to this type of game, you won't find it overly difficult. The missions are varied enough so you will still be challenged at times. Additional game modes added in a recent update also increase the playability of the game further. The base game offers about 10 hours of gameplay, the extra modes bump that up to 20 hours or so. Overall, a bit thumbs up from me. …4 found this helpful

I read a lot of LitRPG and this game is so along the lines of what I read that it gives me the warm fuzzies. The dialog is hilarious and the gameplay just makes sense. I am only up to Quest 5 but am really enjoying this game so far.1 found this helpful
Very enjoyable, fun affair. Quite nostalgic for everyone who enjoyed xcom back in the 90s. Nice pacing with the transition from both battle to the cozy guild atmosphere and dialogues.1 found this helpful
Ugly game, jokes aren't funny, characters have no sex appeal, & I caused the game to lock up by pressing the wrong button during the tutorial.
