Tags: Sidescroll Shooter Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Outcompeted. Sprites get stuck in obstacles. Dumb AI. Dubious level design. Spam oriented encounters. Feels like a runner at times. Basically you push forward, occasionally destroying checkpoints like in the original. This time the SFX worked and the sprites are marginally better. The animation is still low quality and the engine did not do too fluid a job at translating the action and the panning on screen. The jump animation is still stiff. The more varied attack patterns and their speed mean you mostly have to rely on killing everything aggressively, and relying on drops to make up for your chipped health and ammo. Gets outcompeted fast by quality sidescroll shooters. https://store.steampowered.com/app/274190/Broforce/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/366250/METAL_SLUG/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/250700/Super_Time_Force_Ultra/3 found this helpful
Gunslugs 2, developed by Orangepixel and published in partnership with HandyGames, is a fast-paced side-scrolling action shooter that embodies the chaotic charm of classic run-and-gun games while infusing them with a distinct sense of humor and modern indie flair. It follows the formula established by its predecessor but ramps everything up—more explosions, more enemies, and more unrelenting mayhem. The game proudly wears its retro pixel aesthetic on its sleeve, offering an experience that feels like a love letter to 8-bit and 16-bit arcade shooters, yet it manages to carve out its own identity through procedural elements, fluid gameplay, and an intentionally exaggerated style that borders on parody. From the moment you start blasting through the first mission, it becomes clear that Gunslugs 2 is less about precision and more about the unfiltered joy of controlled chaos. The narrative is thin but fittingly absurd. The evil Black Duck Army has returned, this time wielding alien technology and threatening the world once again, and it’s up to the Gunslugs squad to stop them. The story unfolds through short, humorous exchanges and background snippets rather than detailed cutscenes, ke…1 found this helpful
