Very disappointing. I have never seen a game that hates the player for exploring its world so much. It has a large sprawling map to explore, which might sound cool to some, but there isn't really anything interesting to find. Almost every time you run into a dead-end (and there are many) it locks you into a fight with one of the few "miniboss" enemies that you have seen a hundred times before, which are simple enough to be boring, but have enough health to sometimes still hit you. And do you know what you get for killing it? Exactly, nothing! It would be so easy to just make them drop one of the pickups/powerups in the game, as a treat, but nope. Whenever you enter a room and it's a dead end and you hear the doors lock, the game is just like: "♥♥♥♥ you for guessing wrong which path was the correct one, I'll just punish you with a fight and waste your time for a bit now". Sometimes you'll find a room with crates in a dead end, but those crates still have the same low drop chance as any regular crate or enemy, and sometimes you can find a room with six crates and still come out empty handed. I wasn't really sure what to expect from GunSpectre. Looking at the screenshots and videos, it struck me as a twin-stick shooter meets Zelda 1 style game, which sounds neat. Playing the game, however, shows it's an entirely different game altogether. Yes, similar elements are there, but GunSpectre is more about using the skills given to you at the beginning to make it to the end, which definitely provides a bit of a challenge. Resources are scarce, so the game forces you to play carefully instead of relying on a system of upgrades to power you through. In the end, I would say I enjoyed the game. I was a bit frustrated with it at first, but that's more because my expectations led me to think the game would be different than what it was. Once I started appreciating the game for what it provided, I had a lot more fun with it. It's challenging, and you'll die a lot, but it's solid and does what it does well.

Very basic. You shoot and jump over gaps. Enemies drop temporary powerups or healing, dungeons either have you going the right way or being forced to fight enemies which is always pointless unless the door locks or it's a boss. When you beat a dungeon (which is just room after room of combat or emptiness), you have to backtrack through about 30 rooms to get out. It looks cool, music is cool, game is not good. A shame as I was looking forward to this.

You control a dude with 2 guns, and work your way through an open world that's done over a series of areas linked together a la Legend of Zelda(NES). Each enemy you encounter has a pretty distinct pattern, which helps you figure out the best way to attack them. That's important, because you only have 1 heart, meaning you can take 4 hits before death. Combat is relatively straight forward. Move around the different areas on the map, kill an assortment of enemies ranging from shielded spheres, crabs, flying robot bats, flight of the navigator ships, and a pretty big assortment of mini-bosses. There's at least 6 actual bosses, maybe more. I'm not sure, because I've killed 2 and I've given up trying to kill the others. The story is told in the beginning, and occasionally through meeting some npcs at various locations. You need to get 6 Data Crystals and get them back to a facility. GunSpectre is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app is yet another of literally hundreds of lazy amateur 2D retro top-down shooter/brawlers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. Now there's a lot of problems with this "game" which I'm about to get into, to explain why you shouldn't bother buying this, but first I just think it's remarkable that Clickteam themselves had the audacity to put their name on one of their garbage products... see, Clickteam have, perhaps indirectly or unintentionally, contributed to a great deal of harm to the gaming industry, and not just because their point and click game construction kit, Clickteam Fusion, is really, really bad, almost as bad as RPG Maker. No, the reason they cause harm is because Clickteam Fusion is one of the primary tools used by Russian asset flip scammers with fake games and fake reviews to pollute the Steam store, scamming gamers and giving indie devs a bad name. I played to the end. It is a frustrating game in that it does not reward you enough for combat and there are no permanent upgrades. It is a maze game, where you use your map to figure out where to go next. NPCs are of no use whatsoever with the story being very minimal. There's hardly a narrative driver to keep you going other than gather the mcguffins. Lasted about 3 hours for my only playthrough. Those who should play it: 1. People who enjoy really difficult challenges. 2. People who persist even when a game is not particularly fun. 3. People who are stubborn to give up. 4. People who have cents in their wallet, so buy this on major sale if the above aligns with you. I fall under all four of these and still wouldn't say I had fun. It felt like work with no paycheck.
