GWENT: Rogue Mage (Single-Player Expansion)

I wasn't even a full hour in and I could not get over how the game would only interact with my mouse clicks half the time. I would end up clicking a button 5 times for it to actually click. The map overlay would sometimes disconnect from where my mouse is and not scroll until i move my mouse off screen and then click back onto the screen. Overall, just unacceptable levels of UI that should not be in a polished game. Seems fun, but can't recommend with the poor optimization.

Tried it on the cheap but it's very much a flawed game. The original Gwent is about card advantage, three lanes and three rounds, knowing when to pass for tempo and when to commit. This game removes exactly all of that, and replaces it with insane RNG. The worst part is you have this persistent resource (mana) across battles but you have no idea when to expend it because 1. you can only cast one spell per turn and 2. the opponent ALWAYS GOES LAST. So the deliberate game design seems to be about screwing you over for trying to play conservatively and not knowing what to expect. Not sure who thought that was fun gameplay. 6/10

I love Gwent, but I think the developers ran out of budget after first cutscene. Most of the cutscene are just a JPEG-style image with quest banners, and they read walls of text like that? It gives me Risk of Rain vibes with its map layout, but with fewer events, very little player choice, and Only 3 bosses (IDK it have secret boss or not). Overall, Thronebreaker and Gwent Multiplayer are still much more fun than this game.

An good card game with a strong roguelike foundation, but it becomes repetitive very quickly. The gameplay itself is enjoyable and there are plenty of possibilities when building and improving your decks, but having to restart your progression from scratch every run makes the experience much less appealing over time. 100% steam achievements Time : 53.7H Completion Difficulty : 6/10 Playthroughs : Many - RNG Missables : None Notable requirements : Reach level 100, complete the game on the highest difficulty, complete a run in less 30minutes, complete numerous specific objectives and RNG events.

Not the best looking interface, but still a good gwent roguelite for the money
