Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales

“Gwent with a story”. Some of the reviews I read online were essentially saying this. I was never a fan of Gwent and that’s why I wasn’t eager to try this game. Glad it got recommended to me by a friend and played through the first few hours when I was learning how to play Gwent. The game is so much more than just a card game with a story - there is so much lore, so many decisions to be made, so many adventures to do… The Witcher's atmosphere seeps through every word and every scene, the choices are hard to make and if you think you’ve made the right decision - you will soon find out that maybe it was not that right, lol. There are a lot of puzzles in the game, which are very well made and some of them will hurt your brain until you solve them :D There is a camp where you go to recruit units, upgrade buildings, improve your deck and interact with your companions. The artwork is beautiful, almost like a comic book presentation. The characters are fantastic, the voice acting is superb, and you get immersed pretty quickly. I just wanted to fool around with the silly card game I quite enjoyed in the Witcher 3, but 9/10 card events in this game are set up as puzzles, with fixed enemies, fixed card selections, and anal special rules that give you one singular solution for getting through any of it. Zero replay value, absolutely not what I wanted or expected.

This game is such a treat for people into Witcher lore, especially fans of the books. It also uses Gwent for combat in a way that is truer to the Gwent version played in Witcher 3 and I wish that the spin-off Gwent game played more like this game. The card battler combat is satisfying, the art style is beautiful and unique and I loved most of the companion characters (some of which you may recognize if you read the books!) Overall, an incredible game that is a worthy entry in The Witcher games catalog and the amount of hours I got out of it compared to the price is genuinely impressive.

If you like Gwent multiplayer, this is really good

If you liked to play Gwent in Witcher 3 then you will enjoy playing this game. Lots of gwent, fantastic art and tough choices to make all makes up for Thronebreaker a game with a lot of care and love

Basically a campaign mode for Gwent, story is nothing special nor is the map or exploring but pace of progression is great, you unlock cards in a way that lets you experience everything, enemy decks are made very well which makes each combat enjoyable.
