I bought this thinking it was a Gwent deck building game but that's not really what this game is about. The story is great, almost entirely voice acted and its very entertaining. The majority of the game is spent scouring the map for resources and doing Gwent puzzles I did honestly enjoy the puzzles, but there's no deckbuilding, the cards in your hand are preset. You just have to deduce the solution. There are very few regular battles that actually use your deck. You can play though the whole game without crafting a single card. As you progress, old cards will just gain more stats, only certain cards can craft additional copies, and unlocking new cards is very very slow. (Compared to GB pokemon tcg, or any yugioh videogame) so if you wanted to make a unique deck you really cant until the later half of the game. The choices matter... i didn't enjoy. I get that committing evils was important for the story, but it took away my agency. when some choices give you nothing or only penalize you and then the game AUTOSAVES immedietly so you cant undo them. i felt like i was being punished for not googling the results in advance. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales successfuly transform the fondations of Gwent into a full-fledged single-player adventure. The combienation od deck-building, exploration, storytelling, and puzzle battles creates a very distinctive experience, especially for the fans of the witcher universe. Horewer, the large number of puzzles and the campaign length eventually become repetitive, and the experience starts to lose momentum long before the credits roll, way too early for me. 100% Completion Time : 42.6H Completion Difficulty : 4/10 Playthroughs : 1 Missables : Yes Guide Recommended : Yes Notable requirements : Complete the entire campaign while troughly exploring every regions, find all collectibles.
Absolute masterpiece, the story is great, the gameplay is awesome and the ost is one of the best I've heard in a videogame
If you like The Witcher, you owe to yourself playing this. Top notch writing, lots of tough decisions to make, great art style, and the revamped Gwent is a lot deeper than Witcher 3's. It ends up playing like a classic RPG, just based on card combat. Customizing your deck and your base is quite interesting. This is my first card game, and gotta say it's been a nice experience.
Great game, wish there was more content. All battles should have been in standard form.
